Just updated (4.4.2) and now every time I send a text message I get "Message Not Sent" notification. Even though messages are going through. Fix?
PKnack, I know I have my fingers crossed for you. Please keep us posted on the outcome of you using the Verizon Messaging application. Do you leave the cell data on whe you connect to wi-fi? You check that by going into Settings, Data Usage, and is there a check mark in the box for Mobile Data? If not, please put a check in there. Then retest.Kevin_RPlease follow us on Twitter @VZWSupport
My MMS messages won't work now either. The APN setting are correct based on the fixes I had before, but nothing is working. It won't let me receive MMS messages in picture or group text form. This is so frustrating! Any help?
MMS does not work for me either. WTF????
same thing is happening to me. I receive the "message not sent" error. Unfortunately I havent been bale to verify if they are going through and the message is a glitch or if the messages are truly not going through. Either way, this is complete crap and needs to be remedied ASAP!
Same here other than mine is intermittent...I knew better than to blindly accept this update before checking the web for red flags...quite a few bugs with this update being talked about.
Tried variety of fixes from web:
Went back to using stock messaging APP from using Hangouts
Cleared messaging cache
Remove/reinsert SIM
Boot with SD card removed
Change mobile network setting from "GLOBAL" to "LTE/CDMA"
Have not (nor do i wish to) attempted factory reset.
It worked flawlessly before the update. It seems like when I get to work it stops working until I reboot the phone. Then it works for an hour or so then stops again...a reboot will start the cycle over again.
Any fixes Verizon????
I'm experiencing the same issue! Hope there's a fix soon.
daniellemarnold, Let's get those messages going ASAP! Are you using the stock application? Please make sure wi-fi is off and try again. If issues persist reset app http://vz.to/1gbNsLX . AdaS_VZWFollow us on Twitter at @VZWSupport
Same boat here, I am seeing a ton of these discussions popping up on the web... Seems the standard "reset everything" is not working appears to be a bug in the NC5 code.... Would love it fixed soon, getting tired of rebooting.
Let's get this messaging issue resolved pronto Grizzly_Chadams! I had same issue after update and I resolved by downloading and using Verizon Messages App. Give it a try http://bit.ly/13rcZfv AntonioC_VZW Follow us on Twitter at www.twitter.com/VZWSupport
Thanks for the troubleshooting efforts PKnack! What messaging application do you use? I had same issue after update and I resolved by downloading and using Verizon Messages App. Give it a try http://bit.ly/13rcZfv AntonioC_VZW Follow us on Twitter at www.twitter.com/VZWSupport
I was using Google hangouts. Then tried going back to the stock
messaging app with no improvement.
For me at least, it seems if I disable WiFi, wait for the "Message
Failed" notification to appear, then resend with WiFi off the message
will go through. It also seems MMS has a better success rate than SMS
for some reason which i don't think is the norm...
It also seems to happen mostly at work where my signal strength dips to
40-50%...but I had no problems until the update last Saturday.
I will try the Verizon messaging app it seems to have good reviews on
the play store. We'll see how it goes.
Thank you for your help so far!
Update....
Verizon Messages app helped but did not fix. Where I could not send outgoing messages practically all day at work I now only have messages fail 2-3x a day. Sometimes Wifi off then resend works, sometimes it does not. I was trying to resend a message today and it would fail immediately after pressing send, which has never happened before-there usually was a bit of a delay as if it was "trying" to send it.... This happened 3-4 times in a row until I decided to reboot then it sent just fine.
Seems to be possibly related to re-connecting to mobile network while on WiFi to send the message. Monitoring a network signal app shows mobile data state disconnected continuously while on Wifi when trying to send a text...per my understanding that texts use mobile and not Wifi maybe this means something...
Could be nothing though I don't know enough about how all of this is supposed to work. Just wanted to give an update and hopefully we can get a permanent fix soon. I used this phone for a month with no issues whatsoever until the update so it seems like more than a coincidence...
uninstall hangouts or turn it off in the application manager and see if that makes a difference while using the factory messaging app. Tech I spoke with said Hangouts can interfere since the update. Has worked on my phone so far
PKnack, Thanks for the update. Let's try changing a setting in the device real quick. Please go into Settings, select Connections on the top, Tap on More Networks, Tap on Mobile Networks, the select Network mode, switch this to LTE/CDMA. Then head back to the main page and re-try the messages. Please keep us updated. KevinR_VZWPlease follow us on Twitter @VZWSupport
After reading the nightmare stories about what 4.4 has done to phones, I delayed the download/install as long as I could. It finally did it on its own. After one day, I am very pleasantly surprised to say that I have had no problems and noticed little change so far. Time will tell.
I too am having problems. I use the default messaging app, but since the KitKat forced upgrade I have more failed text messages than successful, I have to restart my phone multiple times per day in order to try and send a message, my battery drains significantly faster with the same use to the point I have to charge it during the day so I don't go dark, and I haven't seen 4G in weeks in areas I always had 4G. I've done the settings changes to CDMA/LTE and the Global Data Roaming to Allow Access for all trip, which has stopped the 'roaming' warning I started getting. It has not stopped the mms errors and failed to send issues. I've reset the messaging app, cleared the cache and still, ISSUES. I'm ready to chuck this phone & service that I used to rely on. Now I h8 it. T-Mobile will pay my early termination fee, it's sounding more attractive since Verizon isn't even acknowledging this issue, saying it is Samsung's issue. I didn't buy from Samsung, I pay Verizon for service and I'm not receiving it, so if Verizon is having an issue with their supplier they need to take it up with Samsung, not pawn off the issue to their customers. @VZWSupport
Update on Safe Mode operation:
It seemed better. 2 failed messages but pressing resend sent them
immediately on the second try.
Not sure though if it was safe mode that improved things or just the
reboot which usually had the same result.
Just in case, I deleted a couple of apps that may have been involved
with the whole notification process. I had NILS lock screen notifier and
an LED color app that are now deleted. Also deleted message + and went
back to stock app since thats what i was using while in safe mode.
Booted back into normal mode on the way home last night to listen to
podcasts and back to work this morning right off the bat failed first
msg i tried to send.
I will do an experiment on Monday and boot into safe mode before leaving
home in the morning and see what that does.
Another quirky thing, I think I change network areas as I cross over the
Ohio line getting to work in the morning. I've always noticed (in the
past even), if i'm streaming a podcast or music it cuts out about the
exact same point in my drive right near the Michigan line.
Wonder if switching network areas or something has anything to do with
the issue. Not that I had problems before the update, but just another
oddity i thought i'd mention. I'm sure i switch several towers on the
drive to work which is about 20miles, just always had an issue at the
state line.

We truly appreciate the feedback that you have provided, klemeci. This enables us to provide feedback to the software team because the update was sent to all cellular providers and we want Samsung to be aware of the message concerns. We understand the importance of text messages. Please be on the look out for a direct message from me. TamaraH_VZWFollow us on Twitter @VZWSupport
PKnack Thanks for trying the safe mode update. We're sorry to hear this step did not resolve your messaging issue. Please keep us posted on what happens Monday when you retest. Have you tried to clear cache for the messaging app? Go to settings, app manager, all apps, text messaging and clear chace and data then force close, restart the device and retest. As for the concern when changing network issues, make sure data roaming is enabled under settings, mobile networks, global data roaming. Sheritah_vzwFollow us on Twitter@VZWSupport
I can't seem to send text messages either from my phone.
I also have two Samsung Galaxy S4's. Since the update I have had the same problem with sending text messages. The only two solutions that have worked is to turn on airplane mode then turn it off, or to reboot my phones. This only works temporarily however as I have to do this a few times each day.
Since the update my phones have also seemingly been unable to switch to 4g. They get stuck in 3g and this is also when they won't send text messages it seems. I am able to fix this with airplane mode as well.
I have the same problem. I've had to reboot my phone twice today. I've never had to reboot it before. Never. The messages also get out of order because of the delays. Please get this fixed ASAP. And no, I do not want to use your text app. I just want my phone to work as designed. Thank you.
Same problem here. Very frustrating and annoying. Would be nice if a Verizon rep would at least acknowledge this is an issue (caused by the verizon kitkat update) instead of offering the same worthless resolution methods over and over. If this isn't fixed soon, I'm going to t-mobile, verizon's service costs too much to put up with this.
@aj74,Text messaging is my main means of communication so I would be just as upset as you if this were happening to me. Let's get to the bottom of this. What specific issues are you experiencing with text messaging after the software update? Are you using the messaging app that came with the phone or a 3rd party messaging app? JohnB_VZWFollow us on Twitter @VZWSupport
@JohnB_VZW,
I get the feeling you didn't really read any of the 36 posts on this topic, or even read my post. I'm not interested in going through a bunch of worthless procedures that will have no effect. The software/network has a bug, it is affecting a lot of Verizon Galaxy S4 users, and the issues are clearly documented in this topic from many people.
The only resolutions I'm interested in now are 1) a fix pushed out 2) a way to roll back the kitkat update to the previous version or 3) Verizon sending me a free phone (either a new S4 without Verizon's kitkat or a different model that is not having this issue). Those are the only acceptable resolutions as far as I'm concerned.
And.. still waiting for at least one Verizon rep to finally come out and admit this is a bug.
Thanks,
aj
Weekly update to keep thread alive and maybe find an answer....
Safe mode boot from home before driving to work had same effect as safe
mode boot AT work or just a reboot for that matter. Makes issue
somewhat better for me but still failed a handful of texts.
Tried about everything mentioned...clearing caches starting stopping
doesn't have any effect.
I tried the Airplane mode toggle today for the first time and that works
too text that failed 5 times sent immediately after toggling. My
physical location did not change so i find it hard to figure it is a
signal issue. I had 3 bars before and after the toggle.
Hoping for a fix soon....it is not the end of the world but i expect
things to function properly without cumbersome workarounds....
Thanks!
I believe it's time for a Class Action Lawsuit against Verizon Wireless.
@VZWSupport - How can you not acknowledge the thousands of people complaining about the same issue all occurring on the same model phones in the same time frame after the Kit-Kat update? The run-around (safe mode, vz messenger, sim card replacement, system restore, clear cache, change Global / CDMA, on and on and on) given to every person who speaks up on this board is absolutely ridiculous. It hasn't worked in the first 35 threads for 100 people why would it work now? Please admit there is a problem and fix it! Don't blame Samsung as this makes Verizon look like a weak Corporation. If you have a problem with a supplier that is still your problem. I do not see any other provider having messaging, calling, signal, gps issues since the update. A quick Google search will prove this is strictly VZW. Where's the real fix? I think the fix is T-Mobile buying out all of our contracts and filing a Class Action case vs Verizon Wireless.
Good Luck.
@VZWSupport
I too am having the same problem since my phone updated!
we shouldnt have to shut our wi fi on and off every time this happens. & that has NOT been a fix as that is also something I have tried & I am upset that reseting the phone to stock didnt help either.
we shouldnt have to download other apps we should be able to use the apps that were on the phone already such as the regular messaging app and hangouts.
