Screen Timeout not working

I have had my s5 for a few weeks now and have come across several very annoying issues with the display. I have to manually turn off the screen using the power button as the screen timeout never kicks in.

• Screen Timeout:
  • I have set the screen timeout to 15 seconds, and have turned off the the "Smart stay" option.
  • The screen does not turn off after 15 seconds, and stays active indefinitely.
• Notifications:
  • The screen turns on when a notification is received; to the lock screen.
  • The lock screen stays active indefinitely.
  • The only way the the screen turns off is to unlock the phone, clear the notification, and hit the power button.
• Charging:
  • The screen turns on when the phone charges to 100% and never turns off.
  • I have activated Developer options, and the "Stay awake" check box was not checked.

My power usage is through the roof and my screen accounts for 70% of it. I am at a loss as to what else to do and am about to return the phone.

I know those type of issues can definitely be frustrating Fadorn but we are here to help. Have you tried to change the display settings. You can update the brightness, screen timeout, Led Indicator, and Smart Stay which gives you the opportunity to have the screen stay on as long as you're looking at it.  I will list the steps below. Please keep us posted and let me know if this helps.







  • From a home screen, tap Apps (located in the lower right).

  • Tap Settings.

  • Tap Display.

---

  • Tap Brightness.

---

  • Adjust the Brightness level as necessary then tap OK.

To adjust automatically, tap Automatic brightness (Enabled when a check mark is present).

  • Tap Font.

  • Tap Font style.

---

  • Tap one of the following:

If applicable, tap Yes to confirm font change then tap Font to return to font settings.

To purchase additional fonts, tap Download.



  --Default

  •Tap Font size.

---

  • Tap one of the following:

 

  --Tiny

  --Extra small

  --Small

  • Tap the Screen rotation switch (located in the upper right) to enable or disable .

  • Tap Smart rotation to enable or disable.

Enabled when a check mark is present.

This feature allows the screen to rotate based on facial orientation.

  •Tap Back (located in the lower right).

---

  • Tap Smart stay to enable or disable.

Enabled when a check mark is present.

This feature allows the screen to stay on as long as the user is looking at it.

  •Tap Screen timeout.

---

  • Tap one of the following:

  --15 seconds

  --30 seconds

  --1 minute

  --2 minutes

  --5 minutes

  --10 minutes

  • Tap Screen mode.

---

  • Tap one of the following then tap Save (located in the upper right):

  • Adapt Display

If presented with notification screen, tap OK.

  •Tap Auto adjust screen tone to enable or disable.

Enabled when a check mark is present.
