Can "My Verizon" be removed from the notification bar?

I just upgraded to the new "My Verizon" app.  Overall it looks much better, but I can't figure out how to remove its icon from my notification bar, which is not something I'm willing to live with.  I uninstalled it.

 

If anyone can tell me how to get rid of the permanent notification icon I'd like to reinstall.

I just cleared it like any other notification.  It was just notifying of the option to use a data usage widget, which I assume is to make people more aware of data usage for tiered data pricing.  Anyone else follow this train of thought??
