my computer wont recognize my galaxy S5

I connected my phone with the usb cable that was provided to my computer but it doesn't recognize it. I tried connecting it to both a usb 2 and 3 and nothing.I would like to transfer gigabytes of music, pictures and videos, is there a different way that I don't know about?
