droid x usb sync with outlook 2007 I need an app that will reliably do this or it's just a toy

I called verizon and they told me they do not support or offer help to sync outlook contacts/appointments with my phone. I said this is supposed to be your top phone and you cannot give me any help with this? He said I just use gmail. He could not help me forward a outlook calender appt. to my phone and have it accept it. give me a break. is it a toy for geeks or a true SMARTphone?

At the moment, the only solution is through third party software. It is rumored that motorla is working on developing sync software. None of the Motorla Droids has ever been marketed as being able to sync with outlook. The only other alternative would be to use Exchange Active Sync.

HTC includes sync software, so the Incedible may have been a better choice.

Ive used WM for years and outlook never did anything reliably in my opion, I have lost contacts and emails because activesync decided I didnt need them I guess :smileyvery-happy: , so I think it may be safe not to point blame on Android completely because I am sure Microsoft isnt without blame.. Also if you are using a network activesync the admin could also to blame depending on their security restriction that may have been added. So far I have been lucky to get my unit cinfigured without issues and havent notice any push errors like I have seen numrously with my WM devices...STRANGE I KNOW :smileywink:

Since the x has Google, you can download an app that syncs Google calendar with your Outlook calendar and contacts. It won't due the task lists or email though..

I've had a WM device for almost 2 years, I've never had a problem syncing outllook calendar, notes, or task, and I synch to both my work and personal PC's.

I have a work-around for you that's free. It isn't a true sync, but at least it will get all your data from Microsoft Outlook into your Droid X.

First, you must have a gmail account. It's free. Log onto www.gmail.com if you haven't already done so and sign up. When I switched from a BlackBerry to an Android one of the things I discovered was that email sending and receiving was a bit different. My primary internet provider is a cable TV company and they won't allow sending messages across their network when not on their network. So I had to get a gmail account which allowed me to send messages from the Droid. Receiving messages was not a problem.

Second, go to: http://dl.google.com/googlecalendarsync/GoogleCalendarSync_Installer.exe and install this program to your desktop. It will give you a Google Calendar on your desktop which will always stay in sync with Outlook Calendar. Once you have this set up, your Droid will automatically sync itself with your Google calendar continuously. You won't have to do anything manually to make this happen.

Third, using Microsoft Outlook, Export your Contacts to a .CSV file which you store in My Documents or wherever else is convenient. When you are in your Google email account online (the one you set up in step 1), you can download your contacts list into your Google account from that .cvs file which Google will prompt you to search for. Everything should download for you correctly, even notes you might have in any contact file. The bad news is, your Contacts will not stay synchronized with Outlook. When you make changes to Contacts in Outlook, you would have to export again, and download again. Once your Contacts are stored in your online Google Gmail account, the Droid will automatically download those contacts into itself.

I'm sure there will be an easier way one day. And maybe someone knows of one right now, but I know this process will work. Good luck.

I tried the link and sync outlook through google but it would not work as it does not support windows 7, nor outlook 2010... so this is very limited only supports xp and vista.

I don't think google and Microsoft want to get along, they are not playing well together.

The best I can come up with as follows...

This was the most important thing I needed this phone to do. My first choice was to use the software I used on my HTC Touch Pro 2. It's called EMOZE. It did a wireless sync with outlook (Inbox, Outbox, Sent, Task, Notes and Contacts) directly from the desktop. I am using Windows XP and Office 2007. The only problem, Emoze isn't available for Android YET but they are working on it.

So.......My next solution, which I was opposed to at first, but is actually working out pretty well is:

I set up a google account (free) and set up my pop account through the "My Accounts" app included on the DX. that took care of my email problem. The main thing I had a problem with is since it pushes the emails from the pop server, it doesn't clear my spam filter on Outlook, so I get ALL of my emails, including the junk and spam.

Now, to get and sync my Calendar and Contacts, it used the app "Companion Link for Google". http://www.companionlink.com/ It works well. If I add a contact or calendar even, it syncs it wirelessly as often as you have it set to sync.

So far, it all works pretty well.

A friend told me about Touchdown for Android. Works great. Syncs with my work email using Active Sync. We use Microsoft Office 2007 for email, calendar, & contacts. It pulls them all down.

It is on the Android App store.

What about Touchdown from Nitro? I am looking at this software. I used the Droid X Corporate sync and it worked for the most part except it did not download the pictures stored in Outlook.

www.syncdroid.net has a list of sync software available, their prices, and a lot of other information in table form to help you choose what you need. The table identifies USB or wireless sync (including bluetooth) and sync options available like Calendar, Contacts, Notes, and Tasks. You an use your Droid for work now, but we also know it's a nice toy. :smileyvery-happy:

I have been using WM with activesync for 4 years without any issues. I think the manufacturers underestimated how many users need to sync directly with outlook. With my current device Samsung i760 it takes 2 minutes to sync via Bluetooth. I need to upgrade so I would even settle for a USB sync at this point. Verizon could easily influence the manufacturer's to include this option.

I'm setup with Outlook 2007 (exchange hosted at exchangemymail.com) and my new Droid X. I moved from my BB Storm 2 to the Droid X on 7/15 with no issues. Setup was simple and straightforward...I did it while I was standing in the store and I've had no issues synching my contacts, mail, and calendar.

Touchdown works great. Costs 20 bucks. Highly recommended

edit: I don't know if it usb syncs or not, but it wireless syncs - which (to me at least) makes it infinately more useful than usb. YMMV
