Incredible service getting worse

I got my HTC Incredible as soon as it came out. I love the phone and really don't want to return it. The problem is that the call quality has actually seemed to get worse. I have always been a Verizon user and I have never had trouble getting a call through in my apartment. When I first got my incredible, I noticed that the conversations where noticably muddy. A few calls I couldn't even understand. I read a few posts here about signal strength and thought that may be the reason. I checked my signal strength and it was between 60-70 dBm.

Then today I have tried to make three phone calls and the recipient could not hear me on any of them and they all dropped right away. I checked the signal strength and in the same spot it has dropped to 80-90 dBm, and is over 100 dBm in certain place in my home.

Is there an explanation for why the signal would be getting worse? Is there something that can be done (software update) that will improve the quality in the future? I really like the phone and do not want to return it. I can live with waiting until there is an update if that will improve things, but if there is not going to be any improvement I probably need to return it for something different. I really don't make a lot of calls anyways, so I can wait if something could possibly be done.

I'm sure this is a **bleep** question, but has the phone been dropped or water damaged at all recently?

I'm having the same problem. No water damage. I can hear my calls perfectly fine, but people I'm talking to can barealy hear me as it is broken and scratchy. Yesterday whenever I called people, I could hear them but they couldn't hear me, and I heard a loud solid ringing over the speaker's voice. This is without bluetooth or speakerphone.

I'm taking it to the Verizon store tomorrow. My service experiences have been positive in the past, and my old phone (a Casio Boulder) always sounded great on both ends.

This seems to be a re-occuring problem but apparently can be fixed. I found this on a seperate forum (incredibleforum.com) and they claimed it to work.

I can confirm it made a huge different for me.

Go to Phone and Dial ##778
Choose Edit Mode
Password is 000000
Go to CDMA Settings
Scroll all the way to bottom
Change Home Page, Home Orig, and Roam Orig from EVRC to EVRC-B
Hit Menu and Commit Changes

Phone reboots and voila no more muffed voice calls!

i jus wanted to add to the previous post. you MUST be in an area that supports EVRC-B. i've seen many posts that this solution worked great for. however, if you try it, and the result is that you get no signal strength at all, then you are in an area that does not yet support the new technology. you need to follow the same steps as above and switch it back to EVRC....if it caused worse signal when you switched to EVRC-B.
