How do i reactivate and verizon basic phone

My Mom just gave me her verizon phone..What all do I need in order to reactivate it. I have the battery off the phone and the MEID HEX number. Is that all I need to reactivate it? It hasnt been activated in over a year. I dont wanna buy a phone I cant use.

Do you have a Verizon account with a currently activated phone?  If so, turn off that phone, turn on the phone you want to activate, and dial *228, option 1.  Follow the prompts to activate it  on your number, your account.  If there is a problem, you will be directed to call customer service from a different number (land line) and they can get the phone activated with the MEID number, or tell you if or why it cannot be activated.
