why won't my Note 3 charge with my original wall charger?

For the past couple of days I've been getting a notification on my phone when I plug my phone into the wall charger. It tells me for a faster charge, use the original charger. I am using the wall charger I received with my phone at time of purchase. Last night it took 10 hours to charge from 20% battery life. Is there anything I need to do to help the charger charge normal?

There is a known issue with the cables. I called Verizon & they transferred me to Samsung. Samsung is replacing all charging cables for free (we have 3 Note 3's).

I've noticed it has something to do with the charger itself. The part you plug into the phone is loose on my phone and I have to wiggle it enough to make it charge. Last night my phone didn't charge again and then this morning I wiggled the cord just right and it charged no problem. Is your Note 3 Black? Verizon told me the Black phones are having issues. I could get a "certified new" phone which I declined because I don't want a refurbished phone. I did purchase a cord from a Verizon store just haven't tried it yet with my wall charger. My car charger works just fine. So weird. Is your phone cord loose when you plug it in?

I noticed my Samsung Note 3 battery was not charging properly while on vacation. The phone screen was blinking on several time while charging. After charging for 8 hours, the battery was only 50% charged. I was using the charger that came with the phone. I tried swapping out the phone charging cable with a older Micro USB cable. The phone then charged completely with no issues. It did however take longer to charge. I had already purchased a replacement cable for the phone. The size of the phone connection concerned me and I thought I may have problems later on. What's happening is the twisting of the cable while connecting or handling the phone while charging, is putting stress on the connection. This will cause the cable connection to fail. Now when I charge the phone overnight I use the regular cable. However if I need to use it while charging I will use a older Micro USB cable or just disconnect the cable completely. The older Micro USB connection is smaller and therefore a little more durable. Also to help the battery charge last longer, turn off mobile data, wifi and Bluetooth when not use. I learned that trick with my old phone. I hope this tidbit of info helps others with same problem.

MIne has done the same thing. I went back to using a regular mini usb charger. I think this is pretty widespread. We need an answer for this.

It is not the cable. Mine no longer charges as of today, as I get the message that I should use my original charger to charge faster. I AM using my original charger. but the device recognizes I plugged it in. I can still charge mine with my car charger.

experienced the same problem.... visited the verizon store on several occasions... finally, after several weeks., I have found a solution....

the Verizon charger works!!!! It will charge quickly and usually the red indicator light on the verizon charger stops at 98%... leave the charger on for an additional 3 minutes or so., and voila!! 100%.... no more problems...

I had been told to clean the port with a toothbrush, then to try canned air, and I was given a refurbished samsung charger but that did not work either.... Finally a Verizon representative told me to use the Verizon charger... IT WORKS!!!!

My phone is white, and it was doing this same thing... the replacement phone I received was also white, and it was doing it, as well. I use my husband's motorola charger, which fits half of the Note3 plug and charges the phone.

I have the exact same problem. My phone is also white. m I am using the original phone charger also but getting that message. I have had to use a basic mini-usb charger. This is ridiculous.

Unfortunately I have the same issues. There seems to be some problems with the charger and Samsung is aware but seems to deny that it's the phone itself. The cable seems to crap out then I purchased another cable and it worked for a bit then the adapter went out . This new Usb3.0 seems to come with issues I get the same message all the time. My first note 3 i had to return because there was something wrong with the charging port then I got a new one and the same message started to pop up again. I am really disappointed in this phone it would have been great due to its battery life and overall great functioning,but since the kit Kate update my battery life is pretty much in the toilet I could go all day without charging it and now I barely get 4 hours. Suggestions to cut all this stuff on the phone is ridiculous to me as this was not a problem prior to kit Kat. I am thinking that I need to go back to the iPhone. It is my hope that they fix this with an update soon .

I'm having the same issue as well. I have tried multiple cords and chargers. I have plugged it into the wall and my computer. I have even done a factory restart. My phone will not charge at all. I get a red "X" over the battery and a message saying that I need to reconnect my original charger. I can not believe we have not had a single response from Verizon about this.

I would contact Samsung I've had a similar issue and there's a defect in some of the Note 3 chargers.

I get this message everyday as well. My phone has been frozen tonight for about 6 hrs. I have this happen at least once ever 2 months. Dropped calls are the worse. I really love Verizon but I want to throw my phone at the wall. Some days it rings and I can't answer it. I just start singing do you wanna build a snowman........ frozen get it lol

Had the same problem. Called Verizon, they sent me to Samsung, Samsung sent me a new charger, problem solved! For now... I'm just waiting for it to start again. I try to be VERY careful when charging not to put any sideways pressure on the charger when it's in the phone.

I actually had the same problem. I then used an aftermarket charger that is not a 3.0 but still use the Samsung powerbrick. The thing is, it still charges at the same speed and does not alert the phone that the transfer is not 3.0. I believe it is a defect in the chargers.

Same problem here! Is it the defective phone or a defective charger cable?! I will never buy a Samsung product again if they don't assist with a solution

I'm sorry that you're having a issue with the charger. I had the same thing happen. If you don't mind me telling you but I went to Best Buy and had a Samsung Tech fix mine for me while I shopped. I hope that helps,

Cut a peice of scotch tape the width of the large side of the charging port and 1 inch long. Put it sticky side down centered over the port and press down lightly with a thin knife until it touches the bottom of the port. Pull it out and see what is stuck to it. There was lint in the bottom of mine. Problem solved.

So, I had this exact issue. and like others the factory Samsung cable will not charge my phone but a standard micro usb will. Not sure my phone is under warranty I got it about a year ago.

We want to make sure you have the power to power your phone, slosho! Have you tested the SAmsung charger in another phone? Does the cable or charging port show any signs of physical or liquid damage?
