Unable to use keypad when on call (Hotshot).

Hi,

The problem: When I am on a call and asked to select numbers to get to a certain department, I take the phone from my ear and select Keypad. The Keypad appears, but every time I attempt to enter a number the screen goes black. When I remove my finger the numbers reappear. I then attempt to enter the number again and again the numbers disappear. This continues until I finally hang up. I have contacted Verizon in the past with no solution.

If you place the call on speakerphone, before pressing down on any of the on screen keys to make a selection, does the phone react the same way?
