Since my update on my Note II Kitkat 4.4.2 my phone has stopped charging properly and has became very sluggish. When the phone is plugged up and attempting to use it the battery becomes depleted.
COME.ON.REALLY,Let's look further into this! Is the device not fully charging? How long does the device last from a full charge? Have you tried resetting the device since the update? Please share more details so I may further assist. Thank you. TominqueBo_VZWFollow us on Twitter @VZWSupport
I am having the same problems, SLOW- everything is not working !!!!
Let's speed things up pronto ladylongone! My son has a Note 2 also and he experienced similar issues after software update. We were able to resolve all post software update issues by doing a hard reset http://vz.to/1i5WaSo Make sure to uncheck Automatic Restore at step 5.AntonioC_VZW Follow us on Twitter at www.twitter.com/VZWSupport
My Note II does the same thing after the update. I ordered a new battery but it sounds like it is the update problem and not my phone. I know that the Ipone had a update that did the same thing but they were able to tell you how to fix the problem.
I can no longer open a webpage from a FB posting either. It works on my laptop so it is the update and I don't know how to fix it. Let me know what settings will eliminate this too.
soofoo we'll find the fix to get you back in action! Are you using the FB app? Do you receive an error message when trying to open a webpage?AshleyS_VZWFollow us on Twitter @VZWSupport
Has anyone gotten a fix yet. I had similar issues with my Note 2 and fixed it through a hard reset. See my thread answer for how I did it.
FYI ModnarI did the hard reset as instructed and I still have battery drain issue. If I didn't have a wall charger and back-up batteries I would not have a working phone right now. Very very disappointing. With the amount of time it takes Verizon Wireless Customer Support to roll this software out I would in the very least expect a Quality Assured updated.
Sorry to hear that. I am the first to admit that the Note 2 battery does drain pretty quick but that issue was there for me before the update and I have a backup battery. The reason my drains is a combination of me wanting certain things all the time versus turning them off when not using them and my office is poorly situated so that I lose 4G frequently during the day. Its the only place that happens to me (just inside the building). I haven't seen a faster battery drain. Have you looked at the battery app to determine what is draining yours? Its probably the Android System which is a lot of things but you could have some other major draws.
Thanks for this information, Modnar. We do want to narrow down the battery life issues in order to report to the software team. Please run your device in safe mode http://bit.ly/12okMMs for at least 24 hours. Do you experience the same battery life? In Settings>Battery, what is the device showing is using the battery life? Is power saving mode on? These tips also help with preserving battery life http://vz.to/1pmtRSO. TamaraH_VZWFollow us on Twitter @VZWSupport
Well. I too have issues with the update. Battery drain, it won't charge past 81%, and it likes to tell me that the docking station is plugged in all the time, when it is no even on a charger. Among other things as well.
I guess they were trying to send out a replacement, however warranty is up..... So guess what! Unless I want to Edge up, I am stuck with a phone that is pretty much useless. The kicker is, the phone performed flawlessly before the update. So, me the consumer is paying the penalty for an update that was forced upon me, from Samsung and verizon. So,
1) A hard reset may help.
You have to wipe your phone clean after you backup everything. And then re-install all of your apps. Start with the basic apps and see if you see better performance. Slowly install your games and other 3rd party the other apps until you notice any performance changes. Some apps may not be compatible now and will cause performance issues.
2) You want to make sure that ALL of your apps are UPDATED. Even stock apps you don't use, can't uninstall, and you may not like the permissions, still update them. Then turn them off in Application Manager.
3) Contact Samsung Technical Support for the latest Kit Kat patches if there are any. I had a battery drain and wifi problems after update and Samsung had a patch. If you are coming from Jelly Bean to Kit Kat, know that Kit Kat works completely differently than Jelly Bean in terms of security and permissions and OTA (over the air) updates can cause performance issues.
Samsung has Kiosk stores that will re-install the Kit Kat operating system by downloading directly to the phone instead of OTA, which can correct some problems.

The only thing I haven't done yet, is stop by best buy to have Samsung reps, re - flash the update. Will be making time this weekend to do that. If that doesn't work, I'm will be at a lose as everything else has been done.
Having been through all these steps already from my note 3 update, b I has done them all before calling tech support. That's why they wanted to immediately send out a replacement, but of course out of warranty so they won't do it...

Hopefully this will be the last time you install an update on a phone (especially one out of warranty) before doing the research. Had you done the research you would have seen that this update was bricking and ruining phones. I doubt you would have wanted to install it. Let this be a good lesson. After seeing the tons of problems you should have chosen to root the device and block the install. You'd still have a beautifully working device and you'd be happy.
Next time you'll know better. Trust me. You only make this mistake once.
Trust me I tried to stop the update. After what I went through with my note 3, I wasn't about to do it again.
When I tried to stop it, or "delay" before I could get the update off, it had already downloaded. I tried to do a hard reset prior to the software going through the full update. However it wouldn't let me do that either.
I made the same mistake too---once. Now I know better.
As soon as it downloads the update, postpone the install for 23 hours, research the update. If it has good reviews, install it. If it is a nightmare like this install, then root the device to get administrative access, and then rename the system update files to stop the installation. Your phone is already out of manufacturer warranty.
If you get a another Note without the Kit Kat update on it, you may want to consider rooting it asap. I think you'd be happier with its performance with Jelly Bean. I know I am.
cgage823 We don;t want you to give up on your device. We apologize for the issues you're experiencing since the update. When you say that all troubleshooting has been completed, does this include testing the phone in Safe Mode? http://vz.to/1nkrLMfSheritah_vzwFollow us on Twitter@VZWSupport
Yup it sure has
I had the same problems as all the others with my Note 2 with the 4.4.2 kit kat update. Everything took longer compared to the 4.3 Jellybean version and battery life was horrible fully charged at 8:30 am and down to 35% by 12:00 noon sitting on my desk with one exchange account set to push email. The same configuration on my Iphone 5 would result in 85% battery left at 12:00 noon.
Tried everything that was suggested and got exasperate, called customer service and they sent me a new replacement with 4.3 Jellybean. Now things are quick again and battery is around at 90% by 12:00 noon. That's more like it.
My conclusion, don't take the update if it asks to update and stay on 4.3
You will eventually have to take the update. It will push through without permission. It happened to me.
Check out xda developer.com they have instructions to stop the update notifications.
Hello VZW Forums,
I am also having issues with 4.4.2 update. Main issues are related to touch input or response during certain actions on the device. Safemode, Factory Reset, have been attempted and stock updated software present the same issues. I have two Note 2 devices. One was original stock from Samsung, one is from Asurion. Both exhibit identical issues. I am Tier II VZW Employee in the BGCO in SLC, Utah. The main issues seems to be related to Phone App (dialer apk). When a call is in progress, the touch screen loses all responsiveness. The screen with light up If the power button is depressed, however no action can completed (ending a call, speaker phone, mute, etc...). After the call has ended, or waiting for 2-3 minutes, the screen returns to normal function. I find if I manually clear the app data for the phone app, and make sure to run the task manager and close all running actions, it remedies the situation temporarily. I have used the phone as stock with no other app installs, and have even disabled non android crucial aps in attempt to improve the functionality. All have yielded with no positive results. For info related to device: Baseband Version I605VRUFND7, Kernel 3.0.31, Build KOT49H.I605VRUFND7, Hardware Version I605.07.
I have contacted Samsung directly via email and they advise a possible fix is coming but no official ETA. Product development from internal sources has led to similar information. It was suggested I post on the public forum to bring awareness/attention to issue. Other symptoms which are apparent but minor are, battery drain, and signal stability. Again, it seems like radio based functionality has been impaired since the update, and may be at the core of the situation.
I am also having problems with the KitKat update. My cell drops the wifi on and off. And is now shutting off or rebooting in the middle of calls. It worked great before the update
Not sure if will fix your problem. But my phone would shut off randomly, WiFi and Bluetooth worked only once in a while. This fix worked for me, pull your battery, locate the three gold battery tabs on the phone, use a paper clip or needle and pull out slightly on them to make better contact with the battery. Worked for me.
I have the same story. Ive isolate problem like many others to camera apps draining the phone. Ive also noticed wifi running puts an even larger strain on the phones battery charge. I've come to the realization that no one is going to do anything about it. It appears there are not enough note 2 users for Google to put out a patch.
