I have no new voicemails. How can I get the voicemail notification icon to go away on the S5?

I have no new voicemails. How can I get the voicemail notification icon to go away on the S5? Resetting the phone to the factory settings IS NOT an appropriate answer. Its damned annoying and I never know if I have new voicemails or not. I expected better from this phone and Verizon.

Call your by Tapping your Voice Mail most likely in you contacts Listen for the service and when it ask for your pass word enter it then find if any messages new or ones that were on there for a while clear then if you have none at then hit the button that tells you to leave the Service your indicator should go away then..

Sometimes it helps to call your cell phone number from another phone and leave yourself a quick voicemail. Then when you access the voicemail system from your phone and you delete the message you just left plus any other voicemails you want deleted, it might clear the notification symbol.
