Just checked for software updates and the 4.4.2 update is now available from Verizon.

Just downloaded and installed it on my S4. Already found out that the app that I was using to backup my apps to the SD card now doesn't recognize that I have a SD card. No big deal, I can always use another app.
Received and installed. So far so good. Glad they finally pulled the trigger and released it.

Do text messages and the call log survive the Software Upgrade to KitKat or are they cleared?
Yes they do. They did not get wiped out.
My call log and text messages survived also.
