Battery drain/charging issues, not sending texts, and no 4g network after system update?

After doing the latest update, my battery drains only after about an hour of use. Sometimes, it just shut off with well over 50% battery life left. Most of my text messages have to be resent numerous times. I also am experiencing a loss of 4G network in areas where I've always had it. There have been times where I completely lose service all together and won't regain it until several minutes later.

Am I the only one experiencing these issues?

You could have completed the factory reset without restoring the settings and applications for a similar results to removing the non-google applications after reloading/restoring during the factory reset.

No, you aren't the only one. I have seen quite a few people that have had issues after the update, fortunately most of the issues that I have read about were resolvable. The first thing I would try, if I were you, would be to clear the cache from the recovery menu. If that doesn't work, then try a Factory Reset, also from the Recovery Menu. I have seen quite a few people post about issues after the update and the issues vary very widely across the board, but the two suggestions above have seemed to correct about 90% or better of the issues. That, of course, is just a guess.

I have the problems too and have done all the things suggested including Factory Data Reset (painful). None of them have helped and I still have only about 4 hours battery life since update. Curious, BigRedGonzo, I have read the forums and have not seen one person come back and say "problem solved". Who are these 90 percent people you refer to?

I am also having the same problem with text messages not sending.. CONSTANTLY - Also Battery going dead much faster... Help!

My battery is draining too. The icon for the battery life is changed post update (looks more archaic to me). I was also not able to send any text messages (using Messaging or Hangouts). Those were the only issues I had found so far since the update. I did just shut off the phone for a few minutes and now that I have powered it back on, texting seems to be working. Still sucky battery drain though.

I know it's important to get the most out of your battery life Bonstance! How long are you getting out of a full charge? Tried a full charge with the device powered off? What model is this? The S4 or S4 mini?

Join the club Cwelch. The KitKat update, which is irreversible, has pretty much renderred cell phones useless if you happen to live at the edges of their cell phone tower coverage. Everyone that used to have ok to good service now has very bad to none. What is verizon going to do about it? Nothing, they will still get paid either way. And there is no way that your phone can go back to how well it worked before they pushed out the KitKat update. Depending on how bad you need to use your phone, the only thing you can really do to be able to send texts and surf the net on your phone would be to get closer to the nearest cell tower or switch to another carrier, such as ATT or Tmobile. No they do not factory reset does nothing except wast time and force you to reconfigure your phone, this update was a giant pile of you know what that turned my perfectly good phone into a steaming pile of the same. And resetting the settings does nothing either except force you to re-add all your settings When are they going to issue a patch for the patch that was designed only to stop a few people from rooting their phones yet punished everyone else.

I'm not having the problem with 4G but ever since I did the upgrade my battery drains really fast not even using it. within 4 hours of unplugging it from the charger it's down to 30% and that is just sitting and not using it. If I actually use the phone it's a lot faster.

And the only thing the useless Verizon tech folks seem to be able to do with regard to this (removed). All their useless instructions followed, reset the settings and format the phone. Big waste of life time I won't be getting back. Same issues no resolve, thank you for taking my money and delivering a crappy product that started great and got trashed. Thank you for wasting my time and thank you for lying to me in the store and trying to tell me I was the only one having this issue. Verizon knows what the problems is, so does Smasung and so does google. It is the 4.4.2 KitKat update. Everyone knows. All of the forums are saying the same thing. These issues did nto start until the update was rolled out. Why doesn't Verizon take ownership of the problem and fix it. The S5 does not seem to be having the same problem as the S4 with the 4.4.2 software.

The solution is for Samsung, Verizon and/or Google to make good on their product. It that is a S5, then so be it if they want to keep their customers. The way this is going, this will for sure drive Verizon customers to other sevice providers. These issues and Verizon not working to solve it is very bad customer advertisment and Verizon seems not to be working to solve it. We are all witnessing that for sure.

mary25249 We want you to have a fully functioning battery. It is common to notice a change in the battery if the update was recently completed. You can try closing running apps in settings,apps,running and select 3rd party apps and force close them. Some have also found that closing google helps. Also, disable the task manager app because it is running in the background constantly which is using battery life. Do you use wifi and bluetooth constantly throughout the day?

Mary, to get your battery life back you have to format and rebuild your phone. I am a Computer Sys admin for a living so I know about these things among others.

And Sheritah_vzw,

(removed) its a bad poorly researched and developed patch that had only one thing in mind which is to close loopholes and stop people from becoming super users on their phones that punished the rest of us too.(removed) The only way around poor battery life and all the other bugs is to format your phone, reinstall and re-customize everything and hope for the best....oh yeah and maybe you also should tell people that their encrypted data and third party App use of your SD card is trashed among other things.

Mary, if you format and rebuild your phone you will gain about 20% back of battery life. Not much but its better than nothing which is what they gave us with the "update" Be careful though, make sure you have backed up everything before proceeding. Don't listen to these dummies from verizon they are just reading from script that denies there are any issues with Kit Kat. In fact one of the Redshirts tried to tell me in person at a store that he had never heard of any issues so far with Kit Kat except mine.

So John, you are saying only use Google Apps? Do you work for Google? That is the silliest thing I have heard next to the redshirt responses that deny there are issues. I don't mean to attack you but really.....Google only?
