Pull the battery, reinsert, then Power on holding Volume Up and Power at the same time
I, too, have this problem...I have a Galaxy J1 and before, it did this once, I took out the battery, sat there for a minute, re inserted it and turned it on, and the screen came back...no problem. Tonight, 7/18/2016, I was viewing my bank account and it went off. Couldn't get it back on. Came here, tried the power button, volume button up and down, and battery out, can hear all the bells and whistles, but no screen, just black. Do I need to get a new phone? This phone is only 5 months old. I don't drop my phone, I don't get my phone wet, I'm very careful with my phone, so is it an engineering issue??? We want to make sure to find out what is causing the screen to go out. I would highly recommend taking it to a nearby store location so they can look at this issue physically.

If another battery pull doesn't resolve the issue, I would guess that the phone will need to be replaced.
