DROID problems when on call...screen stays OFF when take phone off ear

I have had this issue off and on since I got the phone and it is bothering me a lot. Basically when I am on a call and take the phone away from my ear to either end the call or get call waiting, the screen stays off and I cannot do anything. My sensor is clear on the top left of the screen too. I cannot end calls when needed, and today I get a call through that I needed to take while on another one and I was unable to do so because the screen stayed off and I could not get the call. I tapped the power button too and nothing happened.

is this a common issue? Kinda bothering me when I miss a call like that because the phone will not go on like it is supposed to.

try holding the phone flat for a couple of seconds...bet you'll be surprise :smileyhappy:

The Motorola Droid's proximity sensor is in the upper right corner of the phone. Do you have the Droid Eris? The Eris does not have a proximity sensor to turn the screen off and on as you put it to your face or remove it. The screen simply goes off after a preset time.

For clarification, when looking at the phone, the proximity sensor is in the top left corner.

The info on the Eris is not accurate, I just placed a call to my desk phone from my Eris and covered the sensor to the left of the earpiece and it clearly blacks out the screen when covered with my finger and then shows the keypad again when I remove it and this was repeatable throughout the active call ! It does not "go to black" at a preset time...there is definitely a sensor.
