So for some reason my power button no longer works and I am trying to figure out how else I can turn on my phone, Ive read that this occurs a lot with this type of phone. My contract is almost up this month, and I just want to know what I can do to get it functioning again.

Call and talk to them about it.  I called to talk about a broke  s4a month before my contract  was up and they went ahead and let me upgrade no fees aside from 20$ activation.  They actually let me upgrade my s3 4 months early and let me get the discount price on the GS5.
