How or why do my text messages disappear from my log?

On my galaxy mini, I just scrolled backward to reread a text message from a few weeks ago. I discovered that everything older than 2 weeks old is gone!!!

How did that happen?

Is there any way I can recover those missing messages?

My phone has more than half of the storage space available, so I don't think the messages were deleted because the phone was full. Plus they should warn you about that anyway, shouldn't they?

My last droid phone had 2 full years worth of text messages still there in each thread, right up until I stopped using the phone.

I'm just using the default text app that came with my phone.

Great question! I like to keep a good backlog of my text messages as well. The Galaxy s4 Mini has a default setting to only save 200 messages per thread. Once you've reached 200 messages then it will start removing the oldest text messages to save memory on your phone. To adjust you can open up the default texting app>press menu key>choose settings>choose text message limit. You can increase how many you want to save per thread.

Is it possible to recover the lost text messages? there was some very

valuable information in one of my threads.

I already tried looking for the settings on the texting app.

There are no options that pop up other than choosing which app to use.

I'm very sorry for any inconvenience this 200 message limit has caused! Once the message has been deleted, there is not a way to restore it. The phone's messages would have needed to have been backed up previously in order to access that old data.

We definitely want to make sure you get the longer threads you're looking for! Are you using the pre-installed messaging app? If so, when the app is open and you're looking at all your threads, press the menu button and choose settings. What options do you see here? Still only which app to use?
