Now that we know the Passport will not immediately be available on Verizon, if we get a phone unit from BlackBerry Store, will it work on Verizon?
Hi, bloren3433
It is just like when Verizon got the exclusive for the Z30, AT&T will get the exclusive with the Passport. See http://crackberry.com/att-getting-exclusive-blackberry-passport-when-it-launches-usa
Verizon will get the Classic when it is released later this year. To answer the other user wanting to know if the Passport will work on Verizon...no. Verizon is CDMA
In my opinion, BlackBerry is shooting themselves in the foot by doing the exclusive thing. You would think they would want to sell some phones and let all of the big carriers in the USA have the Passport. But, who am I to question them...just a consumer. I'm not going to "jump ship" and change providers just because the latest phone is exclusive. That won't be for long, heck, look at the Z30. It was exclusive for just a short while. I just wish BlackBerry would get serious again about marketing their products. You walk into a Verizon store and ask to look at their BlackBerry devices, and they look at you like you have lobsters crawling out of your ears, lol. Well, I will come down off my soapbox.
Doc
Blackberry passport will only be available to AT&T and a unlock version will not run on the Verizon network due to CDMA
If Verizon is not going to carry the Blackberry Passport, then I'm moving my business to AT&T. After almost 20 years, I will leave Verizon in order to get a Blackberry.
Whats Sad Doc. at one time you couldn't go just a few steps in a place an not see someone with Black Berrie & even though I've pushed on to Android I hope they can some how" come back to the way they where..
I hope they do because if Verizon doesn't carry the Passport then I will break my contract to go with AT&T too so I can have the Passport.
I am a very big fan of Blackberry phones and was thinking about getting a windows phone when my upgrade comes; however, if Verizon will not be selling any of the new Blackberry phones, like the Porsche or the passport, I will be sure to look at going to another provider.
I would consider changing to ATT as well if Verizon doesn't come out with the passport!
The passport is sold out for USA customers until October 6th. Are you hearing this Verizon the phone is SOLD OUT! Everyone that was able to order a Passport on Sept 24th is either on AT&T or planing on moving to AT&T when they receive their phone. I am ordering a Passport on October 6th from shopblackberry.com with over night shipping I will have it up and running on AT&T the next day.
Just announced Shopblackberry.com and amazon.com sold out 200,000 Passports in 6 hours. The next wave of stock becomes available on Oct 6th. Could another 200,000 be sold on that day by customers like me who did not get a chance to order in the first 6 hours of availability? Would like to see the faces of Verizon upper management now who chose not to have Blackberry go into production with a Passport compatible with the Verizon network .
I, too, will switch to AT&T when my "Contract" expires in a couple months if the Passport is not a Verizon option at that time.
Yep... After 15+ years with Verizon, if Verizon does not have the phone I want when my contract is up will have to take my business where I can get the phone I want.
bloren3433 We completely understand wanting the latest devices. Although we don't have any information about whether we will carry the Passport, our hopes are that we can help you find a phone from our smartphone line up that meets your needs http://bit.ly/nD0WuY What specific features or specs are you looking for? I'm just want to know ahead of time is Verizon moving away from Blackberry and will just offer IPhones and Android's Devices? Because When I joined Verizon I asked will you always supported the latest and greatest Blackberry devices and I was assure that Verizon and blackberry had a very strong relationship and growth would continue with new offering from blackberry.
I think users here want a phone with a large screen, with a great physical keyboard. (I am personally sooo over typing on glass) An innovative feature such as the touch capacitive keyboard. But most of all a phone that is build for productivity, not some portable advertisement billboard machine Android is or a bendy iphone. When someone chooses BlackBerry there is a piece of mind knowing that there information is safe and secure.
I'm looking for a wide screen, physical keyboard, top notch security, memory expansion to 128. What do you have for me?
SheritaH_VZW, You're not listening. The "features/Specs" I am looking for can be found here: BlackBerry Passport – New BlackBerry Passport Smartphone - US
What are you offering to match that?
Well, I am very confused; I just received a text message right on my VERIZON Blackberry Z10 informing me that the Blackberry Passport is available. If I follow the link(s), I guess to the official Blackberry store, and spend over $500 ++, will the device work, or just be an attractive paperweight?
Frank, No the passport that is being sold on Shopblackberry.com and Amazon.com is not compatible with the Verizon network. Someone has already tried activating it on Verizon and it does not work. It was not expected to work because the band VZW uses for 3G is not on the phone. In 2016 when Verizon moves entirely to LTE than it will work. There is no way that text you got was from Verizon. I do not know where you signed up to get alerts maybe it came from BlackBerry?
iI'm very disappointed that the Passport isn't coming to Verizon. I'll keep four lines on Verizon but move my line to at&t for this device. I used to need Verizon for coverage but the others have done a good job catching up and i now have LTE available at home and work from each of the big four.
Actually it was a "notification" not a text; still, it got my hopes up all
for nothing. Thanks for the info but 2016 ?????
Yes, Verizon announced that their 3G CDMA network will be phased out sometime in 2016. Alot of phones will likely to support voLTE in 2015. The LTE network needs upgraded and expanded in order to solely rely on it and allow them to drop 3G completely. Verizon's 3G is the network that is CDMA. Passport is compatible with Verizon's LTE network.
That would make sense if Verizon only ran on CDMA network technology. But in recent years Verizon has invested in a widespread, highly-dependable LTE network, transitioning their infrastructure away from an aging CDMA standard. The Passport, as an LTE device, ought to work on Verizon's network, though it will not be guaranteed unless Verizon opts to carry it, as I earnestly hope they will.
Frank_the_Lawyer, we want you to have the best wireless experience no matter which device you choose. At this time, it has not yet been confirmed that we will launch the Blackberry Passport on our network. You can stay tuned right here: http://bit.ly/n5snpq LasinaH_VZWFollow us on Twitter @VZWSupport

Sorry blackberry Joe, what you say is complete rubbish. Why then would the first 200,000 Passports be sold directly to consumers via shop.blackberry.com and Amazon? Bottom line is the Passport is not available on Verizon, business or personal.
