Unable to access Gmail or Google from my Cosmos

I get the following error if I try to access gmail, or go to google.com

"Security error: Untrusted server certificate"

I just got this phone from a Verizon store and even tech support has not been able to help.

I updated phone software and deleted cookies and cache. I really don't want to spend an additional $6.99 per month on an email app.

500MB of useless web access is included with my plan.

This is crazy!

My husband just got that phone but he doesn't have internet and I can't see doing internet on that phone and browsing the web but I am used to smart phones for browsing. I think it's probably a browser problem on that phone. Can you get to other websites ok? That screen is so tiny how can you see the emails anyway? Mary

Let's look into this! Are you able to access other websites via the browser? Current zip code? Is your current phone a new or replacement device?

15237 New phone sold to me by Verizon.

And YES, all other sites I attempted to access are available.

If you google "LG phones, security error: Untrusted site certificate" you will see how prevalent this issue has been with LG phones since 2009 AND IS STILL UNRESOLVED. This phone should have NEVER been sold by Verizon.

For several years I had a similar Samsung that I used on Verizon and never had an issue accessing Gmail or Google and reading my emails.

The issue is that the phone was sold on the basis of web usage, but is unable to access a major site like Google, not on the basis of what YOU think the phone should be used for.

Interestingly, when you go to "email" on the phone it ONLY lists the following......

AOL mail

Yahoo Mail

Verizon.net

Windows live

Trying to access gmail produces........

Thank you so much for the information. I am showing that Google has updated the security certificates associated with the Gmail webssite to meet federal guidelines and requirements, which has caused the certificates on these devices to be incompatible with Gmail's certificates. But, with that being said there is a work around! You can download the Verizon Opera MIni Browswer by going into Media Center>Apps>Opera Mini. Please keep us posted.

Your workaround is not something that will work on this phone either. THERE IS NO APP LISTED CALLED "OPERA MINI" ON THIS PHONE.

This has evidently been a long term problem with Verizon and LG phones,

It would seem reasonable to expect that a problem between LG phones and Verizon, dating back to June of 2006 would be resolved by now!

The only resolution appears to be to either change email providers and also stop using Google, or to jump ship! On a month to month plan, it seems to be a no-brainer what to do.

(And along with it, eat the costs associated with activation and purchasing phone that should never have been sold to be used on Verizon)
