Trying to transfer contacts from S5 to HTC One Windows 8.1

Got the new HTC One Windows 8.1 phone yesterday. Had Samsung Galazy S5. Contacts did not transfer over. I had Backup Assistant Plus on S5 and Cloud setup to backup. The old phone now has new number assigned to it and it only want to delete all info when I go into Cloud. Can I load Backup assistant on my PC and send contacts there so I can then download to Windows phone? Verizon is no help.

if your accounts are in gmail, settings, accounts, google/gmail, sync what you want.

syncing various parts of gmail works better than backup assistant.
