After backing up images on my phone's external sdcard, I accidentally deleted the image files on my phone's internal memory - which was not backed up.
I have significant experience with data recovery on Windows PCs, but none with Android Phones.
I'm also painfully aware that continuing to use my phone (which is unfortunately unavoidable) is reducing my chances of ever recovering these pictures.
here is what I have figured out so far:
- Recovery software choices available in the Google Play Store don't look promising. At least I was not able to locate anything I had any confidence in.
- I can use familiar recovery software running on Windows if I can connect the phone with a USB data cable to my PC and recognize the internal memory as a USB mass storage device (aka "USB MSC" / UMS).
- Recent versions of Android appear to have removed support for connecting as a USB mass storage device.
- Only MTP and PTP options appear to be available on my phone which is running Android 4.4.2. These are file-level transfer protocols and unlikely to be of any use for recovering deleted files.
- Enabling USB debugging under Developer Options does not change the available connection modes. I'm still limited to MTP or PTP. No MSC.
Please advise!
