I can't hear the caller and he can't here me when making or receiving calls on Galaxy S4. HELP!

Whether someone calls me or I call them, frequently neither of us can hear the other one. If I turn my phone off and back on it sometimes helps for a day or so then starts having the same issue again. Please help as I'm not due for an upgrade for almost another year!

This is a vital aspect of being able to use your phone. 

First, do you use any type of bluetooth or wired headset when making and receiving calls? Also, what happens when you try to adjust the volume or enable speakerphone? Are you then able to hear eachother?
