Galaxy S6 Edge screen rotation issue

I sent VZW support these pics on twitter. they responded they werent aware of any situation. I also sent them to Samsung. Obviously upright it should read 0 degrees as the 2nd picture shows, the first picture in the landscape orientation should read 90 degrees. If you stick with it the issue may never go away. It would be a big issue for me with my phone without screen rotation. I would take it back for a replacement within your 14 day trial, making sure the rotation works on the next one before you leave the store. If you did 6 factory resets then I doubt if you can fix it with any menu option.

I have the same issue and i just called to customer service and their advice is to exchange the phone. They don't think a software update will fix the issue. You can go to any corporate verizon store and make sure you bring everything that came with the phone (box, charger, headset, etc..) ill be doing this today if i have time. good luck. hope this helped.

That's what they told me too. I just got back from exchanging it and made sure screen rotation worked before then activated the phone. Hopefully it was just a defective phone and not a software glitch but time will tell.

I have the S6 edge. I guess im lucky cause I dont have that problem. My problems seems to be lack of getting text messages from others... not sure my texts are getting delivered

I preordered a 32GB Galaxy S6 Edge and the phone had this issue upon turning it on.

I went down to my local Verizon store and replaced the phone, which rotated fine for 1 DAY... then the new phone stopped rotating as well. I am extremely irritated at this issue... and though it may seem minor to some, every time you watch a video full screen or rotate to txt, or use your camera in landscape... I hope you realize that this dumb little bug completely ruins the phone experience. I don't know WTF to do now???!!!

Facing the same issue. Screen does not rotate at all. Went to local Verizon store, was informed that they do not have the device in stock and would only be able to replace once it's stocked.

The irritating part is that they didn't have any estimate when the replacement would be available. Seriously, either Samsung or Verizon underestimated the phone.

On pressing further, the alternate provided option was that I can order the new piece at retail price which would be overnight delivery and once I return my existing device, I would get the amount back.

I have decided to wait couple of days before taking this option. But I am wondering whether they actually don't have the device or they just want a new sale instead of replacement.

I believe your feeling regarding them saving phones for new sale is dead on.

I got the exact same feedback you did... no phones in stock, we should be getting some in soon, but after he went in back to have his manager call a local store to hold one, he miraculously found one for me... and the box was NOT fresh out of some shipment as it had wear marks on it.

on phone #2 and when the CSR at the VZW store took it out of the box and powered it up the rotation was working, 24 hours later camera and browser are locked in portrait mode. the first edge I had had the camera locked in landscape.

Looks like i'm going back to the Verizon store tomorrow after work.

...and oh yeah added bonus for me. Where I live I have crap VZW service so I have a Samsung Network Extender (SCS-2U01). According to the website the S6edge IS NOT compatible. 1X is the best I get

Hey just FYI my verizon tech mention using a emegency factory reset (potential through samsung switch pc) for a failed framework issue patch and that was their option to redownload the patch. I'm having the same issue as everyone else. I'm getting really tired of the issues with Samsung and Verizon. First, the lollipop upgrade hosed my S5, and now this. It may be time to move on soon. Maybe back to AT&T and an iPhone?

I called Verizon Monday, they said they hadn't heard of this issue and then they transferred me to Samsung. Samsung also said they hadn't heard of the issue (at first), then backtracked and said they were aware of the issue. Samsung gave me a ticket number and said they would get back to me when they figured out a solution but they had no idea when that would be. I called my local Verizon store and asked if I could exchange the phone, they said yes but unfortunately no one in the state had the phone in stock. I ended up going into the store where I got a full refund and was told to just call back periodically to see if they have gotten any new shipments in.

So last evening I got a call from store that they have received shipment and I got my device replaced. I verified the screen rotation at the store and it was working fine. I came back and started installing all my favorite apps from play store and restoring my data. After couple of hours, when I checked the same issue came up. So now my replaced device also has the same screen rotation issue.

I hurried up to the store and heard what I expected - that they have no more devices. Apparently all the new stock was sold out within 2 hours on a weekday.

Then I raised the issue with Samsung tech support, they tried lot of troubleshooting and finally made me hard reset the phone. But it didn't work. So their suggestion either to ask for replacement or ship them the device so that the technicians would look into it. I enquired whether Samsung is aware of this issue and is there a patch around the corner. The answer was negative.

So I am seriously thinking of cancelling the phone and asking for a full refund. What's the guarantee the 3rd device would not have the same issue. That too, no one knows when would I get it.

Am I allowed to cancel the device and ask for a full refund?

Same issue. Bought the S6 Edge on 4/11 and it all went bad 4/14. No way to fix it.

First day mine wouldn't rotate and the camera settings where upside down. There are too many people with the same problem to think just swapping it out will correct it. I am worried that I will get another with same troubles. Also I think it BS that you have to pay a restocking fee when you swap out a phone online that in my eyes has a defect.

I was NOT charged any re-stocking fees either time I replaced the unit.

For Owners of this Phone you might wanna Read this I don't know if it'll help anymore but Info talking, Mentioning about the issue is better than No info at all < IF THIS IS AN INTERNAL PHONE ISSUE.! > hopefully it is not Samsung might be forced to recall all of the Devices to make changes to make the phone Usable.. I hope the only needed is an update to fix the issue..

I'm on phone #3 due to this issue. Once again, phone worked for a few hours then poof.... accelerometer broke, screen won't rotate. Maybe a 4th time will be the charm, or 5th, 6th, 7th ect...

I'm having the same issue and contacted Samsung. I used the chat function to contact them. Senorita helped me out, yes, Senorita. Unfortunately the fix did not work. Below is what she advised me to do:

Senorita: Hi, thank you for contacting Samsung Technical Support. How may I help you today?

Kevin: The screen on my S6 Edge does not auto rotate. Is there a fix for this or do I have to return the phone for a new one?

Senorita: I am sorry to know that the screen rotation feature is not working on your device.

Senorita: Let us try with some troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue.

Senorita: If you wish I can access your device remotely with your permission to try to resolve the issue.

Senorita: Okay, I will provide you with some of the troubleshooting steps you can perform the steps once the device is handy.

Senorita: From home screen tap on Apps>>Settings>>Application manager>>More>>reset app preferences>>reset apps.

Verizon chat offered an immediate replacement of the device without even troubleshooting today. Since the local stores are out of stock on my particular model, they are mailing me a replacement. Seems as soon as they knew the model number (it's not in their dropdown list yet) they bypassed troubleshooting and immediately offered replacement. To me that seems like they know they have a problem on their hands as I have never been able to get a warranty replacement option that quick.

… you can see that the accelerometer is stuck. To verify, enter “*#0*#” in your phone app to enter hardware test mode. Touch “Sensor”. The X, Y and Z for the accelerometer must all change in rapid succession as you rotate your phone. If any are stuck on 32767 or -32768, you have a HARDWARE problem which cannot be fixed by updates of software/firmware of ANY kind.

I'm now on my 3rd device and will be constantly monitoring my phone to try and see if I can pinpoint any potential triggers for the accelerometer bug. Hopefully, this one will work in the long run.

Got my replacement phone today. Stayed with the S6 Edge, so far no issues. Was gonna switch to the regular S6, but they were going to charge me a restocking fee because I was getting a different model.

I was told by Samsung support to talk to Verizon. Verizon support told me to get the phone exchanged. I went to the Verizon store and they refused to exchange it saying it was a known problem and a software fix would be coming soon. I haven't seen anything from Verizon or Samsung stating it's a software issue or hardware issue as of yet, and yet here i am hoping it's software since i'm stuck with this phone. Best support ever!

I've been going with the thought of no.I know however with all the opinions that it is that it had changed my charging habbits. I've been fast charging when I feel I need the phone for an extended time and slow wireless charging at night in ultra power saving mode.

The only thing I haven'the done to this phone is power it off and charge. So far with my current regimens rotation is still going for the week. I'm even getting almost 2 days in ultra power listed if I ever needed to not need instant response from apps.

If your locals are being jerky and you know you haven't had the phone for more than a year call up 611 and say it's something else if telling them outright isn't working ... "do a dilbert".

Well, I gave up. After my 3rd phone, got a full refund and went back to Iphone. For those that decide to stick with the Edge hopefully Samsung will have a sollution soon. I simply wasn't willing to hold my breath...

Well...sent the s6 edge back and am going to try just the s6. I really like both phones. It just totally sucks when they rush a phone into retail before it's been tested throughly. I really detest getting the run around stories from both Verizon and Samsung. Is that how they appreciate us? I don't ask for a lot. Verizon isn't responsible for what Samsung puts out, but when this many are complaining about the same issue to them......HELLO! either stop selling it or decide that it is just a bad batch and let us loyal customers know.

I also switched to the S6 Edge last thursday. By Saturday the screen rotation stopped working. Went into the Verizon store today and switched it out for the regular S6. Not willing to deal with this issue. So far so good with the regular S6.

so do they include a rapid charger with this phone? Sorry I didn't know there was such a thing. Are the various wireless chargers available considered a rapid charging method? I am suppose to receive my phone tomorrow. I went with the S6 this time and am hoping all stays working. I see from another site a guy is having trouble using data with voice. Ugh Samsung better do a total recall if this stuff keeps up because they will lose in the long run.

Well, I finally went back to Best Buy yesterday. They had the guy at the Samsung booth try something on my phone. Basically, he plugged it into the USB port on his laptop and ran some utility (didn't wipe out any data). When that didn't work, they replaced my phone. That was around 3:00pm EDT yesterday. Everything is still OK, as of now. I'm hoping this one will be good.

As for the rapid charger, I don't think that's the problem. I've used the included rapid charger twice already on this new phone and my rotation is still working.

I switched to the S6 as well. I've seen a few forums of people complaining that its happening to them on the regular S6 as well. I'm kind of regretting not going back to HTC and getting the M9 despite the camera.

It appears that Verizon disables the Android sensor test (i.e., the ability to dial *#0*# in the phone dialer). I downloaded the Phone Tester app from Google Play store and was able to see my accelerometer X, Y, and Z outputs.

My Y axis is frozen at -39.227 but my X and Z outputs appear normal (at least they change rapidly). My auto rotation doesn't work, I'm curious what other's are finding with respect to the accelerometer outputs.

You are having the same exact issue we are all having. I was fortunate enough to get a working S6 Edge after returning my first 2 phones. It is still rotating well over a week and I have fully updated all software. If I were you, I would attempt to get a replacement, but some people are now being turned down as this is a prevalent issue... so many now are trading over to the non-Edge S6. Good Luck.... it does suck that this awesome phone is plavued with this little bug... but man does that little bug ruin the entire experience.

My first s6 edge had this problem, went to store next day, which was second day of phones release and was treated like a idiot. They finally went ahead and exchanged and new phone has had no issues up to today, 4-21. I have used rapid charger every night also and have had no issue so I don't think it's the charger as a lot of people seem to think. Not sure what it is but hopefully they get all the bad ones off the streets and replace them without delay for all having the issue.

Im sticking to the rapid charge burning out the accelerometer. I used a

regular charge since i got my third 6Edge...absolutely no issue. Last

night plugged the samsung cable in, this morning rotation issue is back

I got my replacement on Monday and I've used the rapid charger that came with it every night (overnight) since I got it. My phone is still rotating as expected. Let's hope it lasts.

I got mine on the 10th like everyone else did for those who Preordered. So far I haven't had this issue. And I hope I don't cause I really like this phone a lot. But I hear its mainly because of the fast charge found in the unit. It causing the sensor to heat uP.

Got my S6 Edge on April 10th, screen stopped rotating the past week. Called Verizon and they were quick to issue a replacement with over night shipping. I don't expect the new one to work (rotate) very long. I'll just keep asking for replacements.

Made the switch from iPhone to Samsung... Sort of regretting it.
