Installed the update this morning, and since then Smart Lock has stopped working. When I go to settings, it is now greyed out! What happened??
I'm going to second that, just ran the update, which failed and booted to the recovery console the first time, ran the second time fine however Smart Lock is now grayed out.
Thirded. It's been driving me crazy.
I had the same issue with failed update with the first attempt, but it updated correctly on the second try. Smart Lock works fine for me after the update.
Update went through fine for me and just checked; Smart Lock is still accessible.
The update initially failed, but finished fine for me after a reboot. Smart
Lock hasn't worked for me since.
Try booting into recovery and wiping your cache partition. Good to do this every once in a while.
wiped cache partition, no change, thanks for the idea though
Same here - wiped cache. No luck. I even spent an hour on the phone with Samsung where they remotely controlled my device and tried to fix it and they couldn't. So I don't know what to do next.
Thank you for your reports. For those experiencing changes to Smart Lock, would you please let us know if you have a corporate (work) Exchange email account on your device that requires a device password lock?
Yes, I do.
I do not have an Exchange email account that requires a password lock, however I do have Lotus Traveler for my work email on the device. My employer does have policies installed on the device that require a passcode and automatic lock after 29 minutes and 30 seconds. Smart Lock was working without a problem prior to this software update. Thanks.
Yes this is a corporate device that requires pin lock. I user smart lock with my moto 360, until yesterday.
I should clarify that my situation is similar to what merc describes. We
use Secure Container for access. I have had it since I got the phone and it
was working before the update.
Same for me...just grayed out. I do have Office 365 and therefore an exchange account. Worked great before update. Now its gone. Looking forward to a fix.
Thank you for this additional information. This update included a change to bring device settings inline with your particular Exchange ActiveSync policy. If your EAS policy requires a password, the smart lock feature will not work as designed.
Thanks for the info Carol. As I mentioned, I do not have an Exchange policy on my device, although I do have other policies that my employer controls. Would that cause the same behavior? Does my employer have the capability to allow Smart Lock?
Thanks for the information, I am the admin for our mobileiron server, we do enforce pin lock, however we do allow trusted devices. What code can I put into our policy cert to re-enable smartlock. As well as this information could have been in the change logs so our team could have discussed this before hand.
Hi billykent1972
We just wanted to let you know that we received your request for more information and are waiting for Samsung to provide the answer. The initial response is that if a password is required, Smart Lock will not work. However we are working to provide you with more specifics and will post again when we have these.
Thank you for your feedback regarding the change logs - We have forwarded your suggestion to the appropriate team.
Hi Carol, thanks for the update, greatly appreciated!
Yes, thank you Carol for continuing to look into this.
To those interested, i've elected to ditch the Stock S6 Exchange set-up (as the stock email app is atrocious anyway) and switched to Nine - Exchange Outlook Mail - Android Apps on Google Play and it works fantastic! Syncs my exchange items and resolves the Smart Location issue as once I removed the exhange account I got my Smart Locations back. Just a thought for those interested.
Scott
Si02Man - Thank you for sharing your tip.
Samsung provided the following:
Samsung implementation disables the “Smart Lock” based on the password policy enforce by admin. If the Pin/Password is enforced by any EAS admin, the smart lock is disabled.
There is no setting to enable “Smart Lock” if the password policy is enforced.
that might work fine if your business doesn't force you to use a specific Exchange app (like Touchdown) like as as part of a MAS360. In that case, you will not be allowed to connect to the company mail system.
I do not have exchange and smart lock is not working on my s6.
what is not working? Is it greyed out? does it not show up? do you set it and then it doesn't work?
Same! First install failed, second succeeded and Smart Lock is now broken. And I just bought a bunch of NFC stickers for this sole reason.
carol_vzw thank you for clarifying this, and getting the information from Samsung. It's useful that you found the source of the problem. Can you take this little further please? Smart Lock is a fantastic safety feature when driving, it prevents the phone from locking while driving. Perhaps Samsung will agree that in trying to enforce corporate policies about using screen locks, they have gone too far, and surely most corporate policies would favor the safety of their employees also.
Jay I had the same problem. My suggestion is to ditch the Samsung "account" and just use Nine as this should solve your problem and Nine is a much more robust full suite Exchange sync application for email, tasks, notes, contacts and calendar.
