Since the update to 4.4.4 my messages show up on the top bar but no number on the app telling me how many text i have. Any suggestions

I am sorry to hear of the issues you are having with your messaging app. Are you using the factory messaging app that came with the device or a 3rd party application? Have you tried to reset the application? Settings>Application Manager>All>Tap whatever messaging application you are using and select Clear data, clear cache, and force stop.
