Blackberry Tour 9630 in Turks & Caicos

I am in Turks & Caicos. I can't get thru to the Verizon 800 number customer service. My Tour was supposed to work out of the box down here (it's usually used in the US). I've played with all the manage connection options and all I get is 2G SOS coverage. Another guy down here got onto the EDGE network after calling his NY office who patched him thru to Verizon. Does anybody know how I can re-set my tour so that it gets the EDGE network so that I can get txt messages????

You might have forgotten to activate the SIM card that "unlocks" it for use overseas.

I took it into Verizon before I left and was told that it should work right out of the box. It's connecting to two different carriers, but only in 2G mode. I can't reach verizon on the 800 num. Another guy here got in touch with them thru his office and they did some reconfiguring and it works. I might have to try that route since I can't seem to be able to call directly. Thx.
