After lollipop upgrade S5 Bluetooth no longer streams ID3 tags. Songs themselves stream ok. Also the songs no longer auto start when you start the car. Does anyone know of a fix?
bearsbar,We certainly want to make sure you are able to stream everything without any issue! Does anything show up for the file when you are streaming them? Does the music still play? What app are you using to stream these files?AndrewT_VZWFollow us on Twitter @VZWSupport
Andrew, thanks for responding.
Prior to the lollipop upgrade, when I started my car, and phone Bluetooth
found my car link, my music would automatically start playing thru the car
media system. It did not matter which app (media player, Spotify, iHeart,
Slacker, Pandora) I was using prior to leaving the car the last time. It
would remember what song was playing and start right back up playing that
song once the car was running. I could also see the title of the song, along
with the artist and album title. A very nice feature that set the Samsung
phones apart from many other suppliers.
However since the upgrade, once the car Bluetooth link is established, I
have to go into the phone, start up an app (the phone no longer remembers
what was in the buffer), select the station, hit play and wait for the
buffer to fill before I could hear the song playing on the car media system.
At that point the song plays nicely. But the car media display screen will
no longer show the song title, artist, or album IDs.
Hope a software patch will be available soon.
Cheers
Barry
I have this exact same issue. Is a fix/update in the works?
I am having the same issue. My car is a Honda Civic and song info no longer displays on the screen like it used to. I have cleared cache, performed a factory data reset, all wit no luck. Honda says it is not their issue, they claim their head unit works as it should. Samsung says it must be Honda's issue because the lollipop update is backwards compatible for Bluetooth. I keep hoping somebody gets it fixed SOON.
The problem with Bluetooth streaming of ID3 tags might be limited to Honda products. It does not stream in my 2014 Acura TL. I just started up my 2014 toyota Sienna Van and all worked normally. I am guessing the software upgrade is no longer compatible with the Honda firmware. It would seem logical that, unless the lollipop upgrade contains specific code unique to each manufacturers media player, Honda may need to create a patch for their head unit.
Curiosity question: are there any others out there that have lost there ability to stream ID3 tags to other car manufacturer media players with the lollipop upgrade?
Not just oem radios . But I have a kenwood in my Chevrolet and it no longer shows song I d or can I ff to a new song. This is horrible. .
Same issue with the 2012 mazda3. Actually I got the 5.0 update in February and have had the problem since. The verison update a week ago did not fix the issue.
Same issue here, I have a 2014 Honda Civic that was displaying song id fine up until the lollipop update. I took it to the dealership and they said there was no firmware update for it. Any music I stream from an app will not display song information. There is one thing that I noticed is that if I play the Samsung Over the Horizon song that is preloaded on my S5 through the music player, it will display the info for that. I have not yet tried other mp3 files to see if that works but I really hope Honda/Verizon/Samsung can get a hold of this issue and send out a patch. It's very frustrating and this update for our phones is actually performing like a downgrade from what we had :smileysad:
Same here. 2015 Honda Pilot. Got a new S5. It worked great for a day. Then it updated and now no longer displaying Track, Artist... on the Car Display. Had an S3 with latest software before getting the S5 and it has always worked.
Called Verizon and they said to repair which did nothing to resolve the issue.
In the same boat. 2015 Honda Pilot.
I hope that Verizon is aware and that it can be corrected. Lots of Hondas with the issue.
same exact thing is happening with myS5 and my VW golf and my girlfriend's chevy cruze , its not just Honda at all. Plays whatever song I tell it to but no longer sends track info and skips for loooong pauses sometimes. my s3 was perfect, the S5 was perfect before lollipop. Its hilarious when companies get the same complaint over and over and over and continue to pretend they've never heard of the problem.
I've had this same issue since the first day lollipop was released. When Verizon pushed out a follow-up update months later I'd hoped the problem was fixed but it wasn't.
I have a 2012 Mazdaspeed 3 and use various music apps including Google Music, Spotify, Pandora, 8tracks, and Slacker - all of which have displayed tags in the past and all of which stopped doing so the day I installed lollipop from Verizon.
I'm sick and tired of Verizon's crap. It sometimes takes Verizon many months longer than competitors to release big name phones (like my last phone, the Galaxy Nexus which was available for like 2-3 months before Verizon released it) and their reasoning is their rigorous testing process. Then you've got big issues like this that somehow slip right by your testers and nothing is done about them for months, or ever...
This is such a ridiculous response. You know millions of people have been having this issue its all over the internet. The cars we're talking about here are very common cars from major auto makers and their bluetooth protocols are specifically designed to work with as many devices as possible. No auto manufacturer should have to come out with an update to their infotainment systems to accommodate a bad phone update.
That is just ridiculous and Verizon should be ashamed for the responses they force their reps to give.
Pamela,
From the link you provided to Mazda's website, I'm able to select Verizon Samsung Galaxy S5 to check compatibility and every single feature is shown as compatible with my vehicle.
As many others have made clear, this is not specific to one car make, model, or year. From just a handful of posts before mine, Honda, Acura, Chevrolet, Mazda, and Volkswagen have all been listed as cars that no longer work after your software update. I'm sorry but there's no way that that many car manufacturers should be expected to update their infotainment systems (and what, have thousands of consumers drive to a dealership to have them updated?) because one handset on one phone carrier all of a sudden stopped working after a software update when it had previously worked. That's simply not practical whatsoever.
I Will weigh in here too. I have a 2012 Volvo S60 with the same problem as the rest. When using Pandora the music will stream via Bluetooth but the song titles and Artist will not display as did prior to the Lollipop upgrade. Two days ago I received an infotainment upgrade from Volvo and it did not solve the problem. I agree with previous poster that it shouldn't fall on the car manufacturers to solve the issue.
To help troubleshoot, here is what I found:
Clearly Verizon, this is an issue with the Lollipop upgrade. How many people will have to complain before you correct the issue?
I look forward to a fix, hopefully soon.
Same exact issue, after lollipop update, loss of artist/track info, checked with second phone that hadn't taken the update yet, it still works perfectly fine. This is 100% a failure in the update verzion pushed out.
I am also having the same problem in my 2012 Mazdaspeed3. Since "upgrading" to Lollipop the car no longer displays song information, no matter what app I use.
Also, my phone will randomly soft brick when I use Bluetooth controls while playing music. This is in my car or with the Bluetooth headset I have. I can skip tracks or pause a couple times and then the phone will get stuck on a black screen and not wake up or respond for a couple minutes until the phone reboots itself. The music continues to play until it reboots.
I have performed a full wipe and reset since "upgrading" but the Bluetooth issues persist. All other functionality seems to work fine but I use Bluetooth so much it seems hardly worth it.
Same issue:
Droid Turbo, 2013 Audi (MMI) -- Pandora worked fine under Kit Kat, but I lost my song artist/title/album info AND track length timer under Lollipop. Auto play seems inconsistent, and "skip track" still works.
However, playing audio from a YouTube video shows title / track / time info properly.
I've also emailed Pandora on this since clearly the ability is still in the system, but this seems common to Lollipop users.
Speede541,
I use my music in my car all the time, so I definitely understand wanting to continue to be able to do so. Are you still able to listen to music, its just not showing the information? Have you checked with your car manufacture to see if they have an update for your car's bluetooth system? This may help with displaying these options.

Hi ErinW,
Music plays fine.
Track info is missing.
Time counts up indefinitely.
I'm pretty sure it's a Pandora problem. Spotify, Google Music, and YouTube DON'T have this problem.
It's likely not an auto manufacturer issue, and I'm running their current software.
Nate
I'm having the same issues with Droid Turbo 5.1 since the upgrade, or downgrade as I would call it since I've lost functionality. I have a 2014 BMW 528i. No ID3 Tags...
I have the same issue with my 2013 Subaru Outback and my 2014 Honda Civic. This is most definitely an issue with lollipop as everything work fine before the install. I have waited months now for a corrective patch without complaining. Having searched the Internet on this problem it is obvious everyone else is having this problem. Fix it Verizon and stop passing the buck
I continue to have this issue with my 2014 Honda. The native app will display the metadata, but Google Play Music will not, where it did before Lollipop. If I could, I would revert to KitKat....but I understand I can not. I'm not sure who owns this issue....it is either Samsung, Verizon or Google Play Music. Regardless, I need it fixed.
Having the same issue. Song info won't display on car stereo. I have a 2013 Chevy Malibu. It was working, then quit all of the sudden. My stereo display now only says Bluetooth Audio.
I've tried everything, but nothing fixes the issue. Somebody needs to fix this. I'm really getting tired of things being fixed that aren't broken. Rather, every time there is an update, things just get worse.
I don't know who is responsible, but it isn't the music player I'm using, which is Rhapsody by the way.
It is my understanding that music metadata not being sent to car stereos is a well known issue. It seems that Google sends a fix to the phone maker, who cuts it up and adds there own stuff. Then they send it to the service provider (Verizon), who does the same thing. After that the update is sent to the consumer. So, I would like to put my setup on the fix roster. I have a 2013 Chevy Malibu with a Pioneer stereo. My phone is an LG G Vista running Lollipop 5.1.1. Please let me know if you need additional info. Hopefully a fix will be available soon.
