My new Blackberry Classic does not display any indication og waiting voicemails on my device screen. How can I turn this on?

I am missing voicemails because there is no indication of their presence on this device.  How do I correct his?

That is very unusual! Has this always been the case on this phone? Are you using standard voice mail or visual voice mail?
