Phone automatically dials a number from within contacts

Since Lollipop upgrade my phone automatically dials a number when I go to look at a contact. I would like to delete the contact and the phone starts to call it immediately. This is my first smartphone and I was just getting used to the original software and now so much has changed. I'm actually scared to use the phone now. How can I stop this auto dialing?

From your home screen, select "Contacts" scroll to the contact you want to delete and long press, hold your finger down for at least 5 seconds, until that contact is selected and then select the symbol that looks like the trash bin.
