Questions about upgrading to a Blackberry

Hi, I'm looking to get my self a Blackberry Curve 8330, I'm planning to buy one off my friend once he's switches phones to avoid extending our contract. If he won't sell it to me then I'll be checking Craigslist, ebay, etc. I just want to double check and make sure that'll be possible.

 

Second, what is the added cost per month that I must pay for?

Yes, you can activate your friends phone once he gets a different one. The minimum package you'll need is the $29.99 data plan for unlimited web browsing and emails. And yes, it is required once you activate the device.
