Why has my Samsung Galaxy S5 recently started taking all of my incoming calls right to voicemail?

This just started happening to me recently (i.e. within the last week). Any incoming calls go straight to voicemail without any notification of an incoming call on my phone. No ringing, no vibrating...nothing. I need my calls to come through as I travel reasonably great distances for work. Has anyone else had this happen? How can I resolve this issue?

We definitely want to make sure you are getting all of your calls! That's incredibly important. Are you able to make calls? How many bars of signal are set up? Can you check your account to make sure no forwarding is in place? http://vz.to/1LKN1az

I am able to make calls and I checked to make sure that call forwarding was inactive for my number. Interestingly enough, I wasnt able to receive calls when I was at work yesterday but when I got home and tried making a call to my phone it rang through and showed up on my display and everything. Im at home today and tried it and it seems to be working fine. Not sure what was/is going on.

It appears as though my incoming calls only go right to voicemail when I am outside of my area code (717). When I am at home or the general area and I receive an incoming call it comes through as normal. However when I am at work or outside of my area any incoming calls go right to voicemail without any notification of the call. This is a problem because I work outside of my home area code and need to be able to receive any calls I get. Can you please help me with this? Thanks!

this is also happening to me -- SO FRUSTRATING -- have to be able to receive calls! i've tried several things mentioned in other posts (ie *78 (goes thru "deactivate" - have done twice today), *228 (says sim card has updated roaming), turning phone on/off again, etc). the phone keeps popping up the message 'ready to install' an update, but it's the lollipop upgrade that i don't want. my settings were for manual updates and i had previously refused all download requests for this update. and now it's wanting to install it, and it won't let me say no -- just now or later. is this part of the problem?

FYI, some of my settings are as follows:

wifi on, 4G on

vs 4.4.4

mobile network type LTE (tried global, no change, went back to LTE setting)

service state -in service

roaming -not roaming

mobile netwk state -connected

i can make calls out, text & go to internet -- but incoming calls are going straight to voicemail, and there's NO notice of missed calls if they don't leave a message!

my zip code is 49085

this has been occuring off/on for few months, and more consistently last couple of weeks

we bought the galaxy s5 phones in july? 2014 when we lived in MN, and moved to MI in aug/sept.

I would be very concerned if my phone was behaving like this too! Lets work together to get this resolved. You described the issue as happening more in the past couple of weeks. Is this happening more often in one area or another? Is it more with one person or all calls? Does the person calling you get any type of error message? When they leave a voicemail, are you able to access it right away?

hi christopherM_vzw -- glad i finally saw there was a pg 2... been checking for a reply and didn't see anything.

i tried several things... some things i turned on and then turned back off, or turned off even though it had never been setup (ie call fwd), cleared app caches, turned off the samsung.update and configupdater apps (for situation #2)... i also did a soft reset a couple of times, pulling out the battery... then tried it pulling out the sim card. i also changed the mobile network back to global (found MANY posts where the LTE network was a problem). additionally, i shut off the wifi, and used just the 4G the rest of the day.

calls finally came through, but because i did so much troubleshooting and tried everything that was being recommended, i don't know if there was one step that corrected the situation or a combination of things.

situation #2, unknown if related: the phone has been trying to update to the lollipop 5.0 - but i've been telling it no. then this morning, it became insistent that it was 'ready to install' (somehow it downloaded withOUT my permission!)- and would interrupt and flash this message regardless of what i was or wasn't doing. so, i was also checking into what i could do for that. i installed the updater assistant on my pc and UNchecked the option for auto updates (had previously disabled this via the phone settings, but it obviously didn't block the 5.0 upgrade). for this issue, the other big thing was doing the recovery boot and clearing the phone's sys cache and rebooting (did this twice)... and then while using FB, it all of a sudden restarted itself in recovery mode - so i ran the clear cache & reboot a 3rd time. when it booted back up it went to automatically install the update -- oh no, i thought! -- but then it came up with a wonderful message, "failed". it finished starting up and a popup box said update failed, nothing was changed. woohoo! that's what was needed (along with the pc/phone assistant that allowed me to change the settings to disable the auto update).

SO, today's actions took care of the annoying attempts to upgrade my phone to lollipop (which i did NOT want)... and i'm getting incoming calls. UNfortunately, i still don't know if i'm getting them all... and whether todays fixes were permanent or temporary -- only time will tell.

when this problem has occurred, i can be inside or outside at home. it's occurred since we moved to MI, but was sporadic ... sometimes the calls would ring, other times would go straight to voicemail (phone on and next to me). problem doesn't appear to happen when we're out driving (and not using wifi). today, it was a consistent problem (not rec'vg any calls at all - ALL going to voicemail ALL the time). during this whole thing, incoming calls were from landlines, digital phones and cell phones - some verizon, some other. in other words, it didn't matter who called from where... it was not selective. it was hit or miss incoming calls... sporadic and frustrating because none of these calls were listed as 'missed' - so unless they left a message, who knows how many calls never went through. it happened more & more frequent the last couple weeks... and then, as i've already stated, from this morning on it was ALL calls that went straight to voicemail.

hope that info helps you in helping others -- if you're able to determine from the above what fixed the problem, and/or whether this is a temp or permanent fix, that'd be great -- otherwise, i'll bookmark this thread and check back to give an update in a couple months or when it recurs (whichever happens first).

ps no, callers don't get error messages. yes, i get the notification of voice messages shortly after they leave them and can access those messages fine... problem is not everyone leaves a message or waits until the beep (which would then register the number/caller as having left a voicemail, even if they didn't). i haven't had any problem making calls or accessing apps and the internet.

I am glad you are able to receive calls again JanieinMN! Software are suppose to improve your phone. Has anyone said that they have tried to call you and didn't get through? I do appreciate all the troubleshooting you have done so far. I would like you to put the phone on safe mode http://spr.ly/6584AN1p and see if you still have the same issues. Please make sure you also back up http://spr.ly/6585AN1V all your information just in case we need to do a master reset.
