S4 update

The latest S4 update from Samsung /Verizon set my phone upside down. Everything is changed without my permission. The feel of the phone...the keyboard color...settings...everything. this is not the phone i paod my hard earned money for.

I click on the setting button on my homepage and setting doesn't show up. Now i have to look for it. Now i have to spend hours again to get familiar with this piece of crap. Who are these people who have nothing better to do than waste our time like this???

This last update is a diaster. I want my old phone back.

If any of you guys want to start a class action law suit against Verizon or Samsung or both please count me in.

No offense but you should've known in advance what the changes were going to be. You didn't have to install the update if you didn't like it.

No such thing as class action law suits. Read your agreement for arbitration and mediation.

Most people see UPDATE, they dont keep up with the newest news for smartphone operating systems. So, most would thing its just some random update, not something that changes the whole phone in aesthetic appearances.

Mixed feelings here. I usually research updates a bit before I install them, but didn't on this one. Not that it makes a lot of difference--pjwalter, have you ever successfully declined an Android update permanently? I guess you could keep hitting "Update later" every now and then for the rest of the time you own the phone....

This really was a major upgrade, and as I recall the original notice did say that it would be Android 5, which one could research (but which I didn't research till after I installed it--dumb). But eventually we were probably going to get it anyway; and our next Android phones are going to have it for sure.

Responses to the look and feel of an OS upgrade are subjective: some really hate it, some like it. Most are inconvenienced while they figure out how things work again. (An inconvenience that Google/phone makers/service providers could avoid if they would put out an actual guide to the changes--how hard would that be, to save customer loyalty?) Android's big selling point is its customizability--then every year or so they do an upgrade that wipes out some of your customizations, and don't tell you how to get them back. We call 'em smartphones, but I'm not sure I see the smartness of either the makers or the users.

Overall, on an S4 this is mainly a cosmetic change (since a lot of functions are missing--so, persianKam, maybe it could be worse! ). I kind of like it (getting in touch with my inner 13-year-old girl, I guess ), but it's kind of a pain for very little gain.

I waited 24 hours and asked some other Galaxy users what they felt. Most had no issues. So far I've had no problems. The only cons are the teal based theme which I'm is not a good look, and I didn't like the new keyboard so I got a SwiftKey one. There was also need for Verizon to add their name to the top corner of the screen. But unlike Apple I didn't have to delete almost all my apps to free up space for the update. It's going to be on the newer Galaxies anyway so I have to get used to it. But these issues should be dealt with before they bring it out.

You should read your "customer agreement", the software upgrade to Lollipop came from Google and Samsung not from Verizon. Your phone actually does give you the ability to see how the upgrade will improve your device or whatever changes it will impose. Even funnier it gives you the ability to NOT update the software should you choose to decline it. These so called "people" with nothing better to do are software developers, engineers, etc. that are improving bug fixes and helping the phone perform the best it can. If you don't like the User Interface you can take it up with Samsung. Verizon has NOTHING to do with it.......
