International APN issue

I travel overseas a lot and have had success using local Sim cards for voice calls. I'm having trouble with data. I don't seem able to add a different APN, it looks like that feature is locked on my Verizon S5 and note 2. How can I unlock that or should I just switch to brand x for their better international service?

That is really strange,Tanner24. This would have me just as concerned. To confirm. when you go to the Mobile Networks Settings area, is there any difference if your phone's Network Mode is set to Global or 4G/LTE? Under Roaming Access, are you set to Allow Access for all Trips?

The option should be available for the local carrier to configure their network via APN settings, to allow access. Keep in mind that certain networks may also not support the bands your phone model is equipped to function off of. This may also have an effect on the connections your phone is able to make.

Is the SIM you are using able to establish a direct data connection with other local devices?

I'm having the exact same issues and problems described by Tanner24 on my S5. When I add a local SIM, voice works great, while data doesn't work at all. The problem is that I am unable to add a different APN. Even the local network operator said there's something funny with the VZ SW that is preventing the addition of additional APNs. I have no issues at all with my iPhone 5 on the same network.

I've verified that there is no change in behavior if you make the changes suggested above. The problem is not the network or the phone settings. The problem is that the VZ firmware is not allowing additional APNs to be added. When I attempt to add an APN and then press save - it simply doesn't save it.

And yes, unless there's a solution provided, I'm returning my device as well. It's interesting to me how a device that is labeled as being "global ready" doesn't appear to have been "globally" tested.

The device is unlocked from the factory. Make sure the carrier that you are using is using the same bands for the data streams that the phone is built to use. (the device is not guaranteed to have all services available with other carriers sim cards)

Are you unable to add an APN because one is already selected?

Settings/more networks/mobile networks/access point names

Perhaps take a screen shot and post it; home screen and power button together.

Same exact problem here and I have a byop Moto G6. One of the most common unlocked phones out there. APN is all greyed out. I've tried resetting to default on APN. Reboot of the phone does not work.

The so called automatic setting does not work. No data and no mms. I can get calls and straight texts. Yes I'm roaming and yes I have it set to global and most else to automatic.

It would be best not to lock these down until this is fixed to be more universal.
