Is there a way to turn off the blinking green light at the top right of my screen that indicates new email or text message? I want to conserve battery life and don't need this indicator.
go into the notification settings for each respective app and disable them from there.

You must be able to change the color cause when i get a yahoo email the light blinks purple..

Only if the app itself lets you choose a different light color.
I downloaded the new Yahoo! email app and the light blinks purple when I get my yahoo mail, green for Gmail, but there's no way to choose that color. I've seen red, blue (from Handcent-I think), and I think yellow, so the flashing light is capable of shining in different colors.
I use Handcent and it IS blue. The biggest reason I use it is the increased font size I chose. I don't have to use glasses to read a text any more.
