Lollipop 5.0.1 App Trouble

The update has killed all my apps. They do not work, the play store does not work, and I receive error messages about my media, contacts, so note, and a couple other programs. How do I fix this, and why would they roll out something so awfully unprepared?

Updates are made to improve your phones function, not hinder it. Let's get this thing up and running. What happens when you try to go into the Play Store? Does it immediately close out on you? It sounds like after the update, the apps need to be optimized and updated themselves, are you able to get into the Play Store and update them?
