$199.99 for a Droid borders on false advertising!

The only way to get it for this price is if you're a new customer or your current plan has expired. The real price is $269.99. I found this out today after standing around for over an hour waiting to be waited on. I guess I will wait 6 months until my current plan expires and see who has the best 4G deal out there. If you get a 3G Droid now, you probably won't be able to upgrade it next year to 4G.

There is no 4G Droid. It's just a 4G Network. You'll probably be upgraded to it automatically with a little fee, I don't see why people are on the notion that the Motorola Droid is like the iPhone -- where there are levels of '3G/4G' phones. It's not like that on Android.

Droid won't do 4g. It requires a different radio so different hardware. 4G handsuets have been around for a while now (like HTC Max 4G) but not in the US since 4G networks here is still their infancy.

FYI, the Droid by Motorola is $199.99 (after $100 rebate) for a two year renewal. The one year price is $269.99 (again after rebate), and the full retail is $559.99 (no rebate). I suggest you count yourself lucky they offered you the one year price, especially since you aren't eligible for an upgrade yet.

I'll admit the $100 rebates is a joke consider the fact that we live in a day and age where rebates can be instantaneously adminstered electronically.

I mean, it is rather stupid that after paying for a $200 phone as well as activation fees and 2 year service contract (which the ETF is now $375 and goes down to about $110 after the two years are up (which make me wonder if I keep using the phone after 2 years if the ETF will continue to go down after that) that you have to pay an extra $100 just to send a copy of your reciept (which you will still need to go to Kinkos and make a copy of that copy) and the sticker on the side of the box (same thing) that you have to wait six weeks to get that $100 back.

There are alot of things that I could have used that $100 on. A toaster oven came to mind. So did several shirts to wear to work. A new pair of shoes. A hair cut. Taking your family out for ice cream. A few books. Maybe even pay one of my other bills or better yet since I will be paying $169 for the first month in my contract, taking out that $100 from that bill. Now there is a smarter idea.

However, paying $269 for the device is not false advertising. If you do your homework and figure in the math, $269 is about right...or because of the "$100 rebate" $369.

Still it is cheaper than an iPhone though the cost of service could be less for Verizon.

No, not false advertising. The fine print is there, as it is on virtually all advertising these days.

As for mobile phone price advertising, this game has been going on long enough that everyone should know that and carrier's advertised price for a phone is the price with a new or re-newed contract.

Of course, you are free to bring a lawsuit to bear over this matter. Good luck. No, really...

I must have slipped thru the cracks, I ordered mine off the verizon website, got it for $199.99 and still had almost 6 months before my plan would allow a new phone.... don't know how it happened but it did and I love it.

They can be done electronically. After I bout my Droid and my Wife got her Eris(sp?) we walked over to customer service and they applied the rebates to our account.

Actually it is a hardware issue. It actually has to do with the chip. I have seen somewhere the Droid referred to a DROID LTE which to me seems to indicate that it is capable of the LTE network that is coming. More than likely we won't know till we get there.

Actually, $199.99 is correct because always say with new two year agreement. I talked to my local dealer and they explained it to me as you have a few levels of pricing. The first is if you are a new customer. Then you get any advertised price as long as you get a two year agreement. It will cost more if you want just one year and even more for month to month.

Next, there is annual pricing. You can actually get the two year agreement pricing after having your plan for one year. I currently have 8 months from the end of my contract two year contract and I can get the $199.99 price on the droid. If I wait 4 more months, I will be elible for my new every two, which is an extra $50 discount you get 20 months into your two year contract.

IF you are primary on your account you can even upgrade early. you lose your $100 (credit, certificate, coupon whatever you want to call it) but you can still get it for the new 2 year member price.

I paid $199.99 just like it was advertised.

There's no false advertising because verizon states that it's $299 with a $100 rebate on new plans or plans eligible for new or renewal 2 year contract.

They cover their bases.
