Accessing voicemail on Galaxy S5 causes contact has stopped

Yesterday I had to do a factory reset of my Galaxy S5 because I kept getting "Unfortunately contacts has stopped" when I tried to use my keypad. I couldn't figure out what had caused this to suddenly occur. Well now I know. It's Verizon Visual Voice Mail. I had everything restored, reconfigured, etc. Phone was working fine, until.... I missed a call and went to my Voice mail to listen to it. Now I'm back in the same boat. I've done all the normal things, force stop voicemail, clear cache, etc... Nothing works, so I guess I'm back to factory reset and restore for the second day in a row. To say I'm annoyed is an understatement. I doubt anyone can suggest anything new, so my question is... After I restore again, should I just never use Verizon Voicemail again? It's built in or I'd unintall it immediately. Thoughts?

After giving this considerable thought last night, I've decided my course of action will be to do (another) factory reset and immediately take the voice mail app and dump it in the trash. I know it won't really be gone (aka uninstalled), but in order to use it, I would have to search it out. It's too bad because I've always like using that app, but I also like having a usable keypad for making phone calls. Guess which one wins. I have to say I'm really disappointed in Verizon though. I've had them for years with no problem. I hope this isn't a sign of things to come.

I thought I might as well put this post to bed with this... Yesterday morning I dumped the Verizon vm app in the trash. Last night before I prepared to do another factory reset, just for the heck of it, I decided to look at the error once more (kind of like not being able to stop looking at an accident I guess). Anyway, imagine my surprise when the error did not appear. I tried all the triggers that the day before had resulted in the error. Everything was now working perfectly! (Time to buy a lotto ticket.) Since I did not check for the error before dumping the vm app to trash, I honestly can't say what fixed this. I suppose something could have been pushed out overnight. Since all dumping the app to trash really did was remove the shortcut, I can't imagine that had anything to do with it, but who knows.... Part of me wants to try the whole thing again to see if I can recreate the error and the fix, but I'm still too raw from the week. Maybe I'll give the Verizon vm app another shot right before I upgrade to the next level of software. Odds are I'll have to factory reset for that anyway (I did after Lollipop). Anyway.... just thought I'd put this out there in case someone else runs into it.

When it comes to third party applications we do everything possible to help resolve it. With that in mind, I would ask you try the following before you give up.

1.From any Home screen, tap Apps.
2.Tap Settings.
3.Scroll to ‘APPLICATIONS,’ then tap Application manager.
4.Swipe right to the ALL screen.
5.Scroll to and tap Google+.
6.Tap Stop button.

Test it and keep us posted.

I also had this problem after using visual voice mail. Did the reset which resolved the problem. Then went back to visual voice mail and broke the phone/contacts again. Apparently it's a known issue with the latest update on S5 (not sure if it affects other Galaxy models) and not a Verizon issue. So the good news is that it should be fixed. Many thanks to my local Verizon store for helping me with this problem!

I tried this after receiving the "Unfortunately, Contacts has stopped" message. Didn't help. I'm trying not to do a factory reset but I think this is an annoying bug. I can't make calls on my phone!

Deleting some old voice mails fixed the problem for me, for some strange reason.
