Premium SMS Question

Our family plan has unlimited text messaging, so does that include picture/video messaging or is that considered "Premium SMS"? I put a block on "premium SMS" and now none of the phones on our plan can send picture messages. In the verizon FAQS, it appears that Premium SMS is something else like another program downloaded to your phone. I'm quite confused about the picture messaging...

Unlimited messaging does indeed include picture and video messaging. We have that, and I also have the Premium SMS block in place, however we are still able to send/receive pictures. What may be preventing the picture messaging as a total DATA block, a National Access block to prevent unintentional web usage charges. THAT will prevent picture messaging because it uses a data connection, although you are not charged usage for it when sending/receiving picture and video messgaes. You'll have to lift the data block in order to picture message.

Just a word of warning - without the total data block, you can inadvertently select an option on your phone, in some of the menus, that connects you online services, resulting in $1.99 charges (PER LINE if everyone on your plan does this). Verizon will not credit those (even if the data is like .007 MB), because you don't have the total block. And with the block, you can't send or receive picture messages, which we are paying to be able to do! :::sigh::: Doesn't seem fair, but there are several threads about this. I just caution everyone to be careful what menu choices they make. I've changed my shortcut keys so they don't go to Mobile Web or Get It Now, and pay the 1 or 2 data usae fees that pop up every other month or so.

Sorry Suzy, but that isn't totally accurate. We can block all data access other than MMS messaging. Some reps don't put the proper blocks on so some customers inadvertently get their messaging blocked unintentionally. If this happens to you, just call in again, explain the problem, and have the rep take care of it.

OK Zehan - by blocking everything other than MMS messaging, does that also block Mobile IM, Backup Assistant. or MyVerizon on my phone? Those all "appear" to be using data and I'm not supposed to get billed for them, perhaps they are causing these seemingly random $1.99 charges? I have Mobile Web blocked, and downloads, and several other things, we can still send/receive picture messages, I do use the 3 services I mentioned, where are the $1.99 charges coming from? And because I won't put the National Access Block on, I was told I would not get refunded the charges.....
