Verizon Wireless is one of (if not the) most expensive wireless carrier in the world, and yet we are subjected to bloatware advertising applications that consistently overstep their boundaries.
The app "Peel Smart Remote" advertises its self in the google play store as "Control your TV, set-top box, DVD, Blu-ray, etc. and find a great show to watch!"
It's a bloatware loaded app that I never chose to install, nor would I ever, and in fact if I had the legal option to I would pursue a class action lawsuit against the people who did install it.. Sadly, I agreed to this [Removed] so I have no case.
This is the list of permissions that the "Smart Remote" app comes baked in with that I have no choice about:
Device & App History
- Retrieve running apps
Identity
- Find accounts on the device
Calendar
- read calendar events plus confidential information
- add or modify calendar events and send email to guests without owners' knowledge
Contacts
- read your contacts
Location
- Approximate location (network-based)
- precise location (GPS and network-based)
Photos/Media/Files
- modify or delete the contents of your SD card
- read the contents of your SD card
Microphone
- record audio
Wi-Fi connection information
- view wifi connections
Bluetooth connection information
- access Bluetooth settings
Device ID & call information
- read phone status and identity
Other
- draw over other apps
- allow Wi-Fi Multicast reception
- prevent phone from sleeping
- connect and disconnect from Wi-Fi
- control vibration
- view network connections
- full network access
- pair with bluetooth devices
- change your audio settings
- run at startup
- expand/collapse status bar
ARE YOU SERIOUS?
Read my contacts?
Read my SD card?
See what other apps I run?
Record audio?!!
THIS IS WRONG, THIS SHOULD BE AGAINST THE LAW.
profanity removed as required by the Verizon Wireless Terms of Service
