Can I recover the pictures that are on my device?

Last week my wife's S5 locked up, we removed the battery and powered it up again. Within 2 seconds of the home page coming up it locked up again. I tried this several times and it did the same every time. She has pictures on it that were not backed up, we don't care about anything else on the phone and she has already replaced it. Before we send it back in I want to exhaust all avenues to get the pictures off. They are still on the hard drive because I hit the gallery button just before it locked up and the screen with the pictures came up.

Yeah, did you move any pics to the SD card? If so, you can just remove the card and transfer to a PC or another replacement. In fact, have you tried to use the phone WITHOUT the SD in it, if there is an SD card in the phone? Just a shot at maybe the card is causing phone issues while being read or written to.

Try Safe Mode

Safe mode allows you to turn on the device with third-party apps disabled. Then you can easily remove all apps that may be causing a conflict or software problem.

To turn on safe mode and use it to fix app problems, follow these steps:

Turn on safe mode

Turn the device off.

Press and hold the Power key.

When 'Samsung Galaxy S5' appears on the screen, release the Power key.

Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.

Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.

Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.

Release the Volume down key when you see Safe Mode.

This will let you know if another app is causing an issue here. If it runs fine in Safe Mode, it's an app, start with the most recent app and uninstall. If problem persists, there may be no way to get to the photos unless you plug it into a PC USB port, and as long as the phone is on, the PC MIGHT read the phone's internal memory.

We tried the safe mode with no luck. I could not get the driver installed on the home computer from that phone. I'll try that tonight from the new phone and let you know. Thanks

If you are using a replacement S5, just install that one and maybe try Samsung Migrate or Kies.

It's toast, I downloaded the drivers from the new phone and they worked fine with the new phone. When I tried to hook up the old phone it would lock up before the computer could recognize it.

This is unfortunate....I am unaware of other methods to save the pics if the phone will not cooperate long enough for a PC to read it or to get to any app before it goes haywire again. :smileysad:
