Many WP8.1 Denim to Get Windows WP10 Update

I know everyone is jazzed to get the Lumia 950/950XL phones which are going to be pretty sweet. Me too!

However, I have read that Microsoft will be updating all Windows 8.1 phones with Denim to Windows 10 starting in December.

It'd be a shame if my Lumia Icon 929 doesn't get the update with its 20MP camera. Both 950s looks to have the same camera!

Big question - will it be delivered by Microsoft directly or pushed via Verizon again? Microsoft promised us that they would handle the updates directly from now on but that may just apply to Windows 10 phones. But how will we get the Windows 10 upgrades?

Right now you can get Windows 10 Mobile without any carrier intervention and that's be participating in the Windows Insider Program. Otherwise Windows Phone 8.1 will still require VZW to push out Windows 10 Mobile to the devices that support it.

Going forward there's hope.

Primortal is exactly right. If you don't upgrade it yourself via the Insider Program, you're at the mercy of VZW as to if/when they get the Win10 update out. (Remember Denim & Cyan?)

I just don't know if that includes the upgrade from WP8.1 to WP10.

The article states that the WP10 updates will come directly from Microsoft and bypass the carriers.
