so just got back from the V store - Couldn't get contacts to restore to new phone from Vcloud. Tech guy could either - had to to back room techy to get them transferred to google, then to phone. why does V have the cloud if it doesn't work on their phones??

Seems like every time I get a new phone, I still have to go to the VStore to get it setup, mostly in the back room. On the Cloud app there is a selectable item to backup contacts, but not restore! What good is it to be able to back them up, if you can;t restore them??

If you backed up your previous phone's information to the cloud, you would then just need to remove it's SIM card, power it off, and then open the Verizon cloud on your new device and follow the prompts. If it doesn't automatically start to restore you would click the left corner, tools, content restore.

There is also the option to content transfer from one device to the other, though I've never used it.

Always best to be on Wi-Fi when you do the content restore as it will use data. What happened when you tried?

every time i get a new phone i login to my google account, open gmail/settings/sync contacts from pc & i'm done.

backup assistant & verizon+ messaging were problems & it appears vcloud is too, i'd recommend using what works.

vcloud backs up/restores contacts that are associated with the phone's contact list. If contacts are associated with google or other address books like email address books, it doesn't have access to those contacts so you have to use the appropriate app to restore them. Most likely, if the back room used google, then the contacts were google contacts in the first place.
