I have been reading all the on line information and lots of other models have been receiving the Lollipop 5.1.1 update including the NEW S6, so why are the Note 4 phones not getting the update. I AM VERY UPSET
Verizon Wireless has no control over the updates beyond verifying them for certification and testing.
Samsung likely hasn't finished writing the code for the update.
If you like updates, Verizon and Samsung are the last companies you want to do business with! They are both terribly slow, so put them together, and you're bound to wait months for an update.
Lollipop 5.1.1 was released in April and we're still waiting. I've given up at this point and have just decided to not do business with either next time I'm ready to purchase.
Yea, Verizon doesn't seem to care if they have us for customers or not!
Maybe the delay is due to Verizon trying to update the boot screen with their nifty new logo?
I read that samsung is updating the galaxy note pro tablet to 5.1.1 on verizon so i hope the note 4 is next, also read the its coming in oct for the note 4...
Just a thought...wondering if the delay is due to the Note 5 because, IMO, not much separates the N4 and N5 in performance for the average user so if both were running 5.1, then people might prefer the N4 since it would most likely be cheaper since its a generation old, and it has a larger/removable battery and expandable storage. Since the N5 ditched a few benefits people prefer, maybe its only selling point is 5.1 and pretty, fingerprint magnet glass? haha, just IMO
If you really believe that I have a bridge I would love to sell you. They all ( different carriers ) get the updates from Samsung at the same time and then Verizon does whatever they want to it before they push it to us. Unfortunately Verizon adds a lot of bloatware to it and then tests has to make sure their stuff doesn't break the phone, but most of the time it does. I have been around the block with this having a S3, S4, S5 and Notes 3 and 4. Usually about the time a new updated phone comes out, they send us a partial update which we all bite into and breaks our phone. Then they wait until we are frustrated enough to buy a new phone to see if the new one will work any better than the old one. My next phone will be a Nexus, where Verizon does not send out the updates, Google does. It will have all the newest stuff the fastest. Done with Samsung and if there was something better out there, I would be done with Verizon
Why? They have had months to do it!
Our customers are the reason we exist so we have the utmost respect for you all. We know that everyone is highly anticipating the release of the 5.1.1 software. I am as well being a owner of the Note 4. Google has the main control of it's release as Ann154 stated. Personally, I perfer them take as long as they need in order to get any and all glitches handeled before a mass release. Is there anything outside of this that drove you to making that statement? I would totally agree with you if they didn't break so many users phone with the prior updates. The same thing happened to me with a Note 3 and I had to buy the Note 4 to get a usable phone. Took months of arguing with you people to make that happen. I finally got a sympathetic manager that let me upgrade early. And that cost me $299 a little over a year ago. The Note 4 worked Great till the stagefright update and now the sensitivity is down and Bluetooth is acting crazy. I normally use it in safe mode so I can actually make phone calls. I feel like Verizon is pushing me into buying another phone to get me something usable. I know I will not get a Samsung, even though I like the phone when it works, it just doesn't work for an extended period of time. I know you guys are trying to help, but it just seems too many people have the same problems to be an isolated thing. Please HELP US! We pay too much for our service to not have usable phones!
I'm thinking they might not release 5.1.1 for us and jump to Marshmallow 6.0 instead
Then it will be a couple more months.
Oh please. Verizon and every other carrier has had 5.1.1 for months. How come other carriers already have it? How come it's already on other phones? Just like the Note 3 as was mentioned, I upgraded to the Note 4 to get a phone that would even work. Stop the lies Verizon, just stop. Do you not read or do you just not care? There are thousands of posts on the same subject, you not taking care of your customers. Nexus and AT&T here I come. Done with your lies Verizon.
I see the Nexus 6P is being announced today with Marshmallow installed...while my Note 4 is still rocking 5.0, lol. I do have a question, and did not see a Nexus 6 thread so hopefully I do not redirect the topic at hand :smileyhappy: With Mm released, does this mean the Verizon variant of the Nexus 6 will receive Mm immediately, or will Verizon keep the OTA update in their back pocket like they are currently doing with 5.1 and the Note 4? Seriously considering a Nexus device and was not sure if the same rules applied for OTA updates when it comes to Nexus. Thanks
I am guessing they wont release the 6P until they get rid of all the overpriced Nexus 6 they have in stock. Amazon is selling them for $349 and Verizon still wants $648 for them. Unfortunately you cannot buy one from Amazon and use it with Verizon. Verizon has us by the short and curlys on that... 5.1.1 is still awaited for the Note 4 and it will probably never see another update . Verizon will have way moved on by them. I did hear that you get your updates from Google for the Nexus line and not Verizon so there may be hope.
You can purchase the Nexus 6 from Amazon and use it on the Verizon Wireless network.
Not according to Amazon...
Thank you @Jjahn01, this is very helpful because I was thinking I could buy that same Nexus on Amazon you mentioned and be good to go. It be a huge disappointment if 5.1 is the last update the Note 4 sees, because I think this may be the last great Note from Samsung since many (including myself) rely on additional storage and swapping the battery. Thanks again :smileyhappy:
Thanks... Now I know what I will do next! Didn't read into it far enough!
I like how Verizon boast over how great 5.1.1 is and giving you reasons to download it if you haven't already. Well, there is one good reason why we haven't downloaded it yet, Verizon...want to take a guess?
Android Lollipop 5.1.1's Best Features
You know that shows specific devices that currently have it. Says nothing about the Note 4. No one has shown any proof Samsung finished their contractual agreement, and it is in Verizons hands completed and ready to go. If you want proof then get someone higher than a low level Samsung rep to make an official statement instead of hiding and pointing the finger. If the manufacturer really wanted to support their product they would say something officially and in writing. I mean Google did... Motorola did... HTC did... Apple does...
IF Verizon was withholding the updates why in the mother of god did Verizon update all the devices that do have it. Verizon wants to hold the update to get people to sign new contracts or buy new devices. That's why those arguments always fall apart.
Yes, specifically AT&T now has 5.1.1 on their Note 4 as of yesterday. Once again, Verizon is late to the party.
Yesterday...
T-Mobile? Nope will never get it, and is official. They are going to skip to Marshmallow. They are not even going to get the security updates until Marshmallow.
So what's the argument now? Why doesn't Samsung higher up if they wanted to protect their products state why instead of asking Samsung? Who do you think has more clout? Do you think Samsung would bend to Verizon? Samsung is the second largest manufacturer(barely second to Apple even with the decline of recent sales) couldn't use their clout to force Verizon to update their products? Seriously people use your brains.
I read that the LG G3 on verizon is getting 5.1.1 update this week so note 4 could be soon too!!
