Supitsmike, I need your help

I have had my Droid since 11/6. I went out very early and bought mine the very first day it became available. Now, almost 3 weeks later, I am a little frustrated and bummed out. There are numerous things that I love about this phone. However, I am really having concerns about some basics. I lose probably 50% of my calls. It is making me crazy. I usually feel a couple of thuds and then the call is gone. I have read that others have experienced this as well. Obviously this is a problem.

I also have a mysterious email dated 12/31/1969 that keeps coming to me. When I click on it there is nothing there. However there is something in my deleted folder that doesn't show up. It always shows that there is something to be deleted.

I can't seem to figure out how to create groups for texting within my contacts. I have tried everything that I have seen on this board.

I am looking to you for some help here. Please try to tell me why I should keep this phone and not return it for something that actually allows me to make calls successfully. I really do love my Droid. I think it is so cool, but I am frustrated.

I can t help with all your questions, but I have a few that I can...

I can't seem to figure out how to create groups for texting within my contacts. I have tried everything that I have seen on this board.
* You need to download Handcent from the Market. Handcent is a feature rich SMS application that includes group and multiple select texting. The stock SMS client lacks these features (Eris excluded)

I am looking to you for some help here. Please try to tell me why I should keep this phone and not return it for something that actually allows me to make calls successfully. I really do love my Droid. I think it is so cool, but I am frustrated.

* If you're having dropped calls and "thuds".. then maybe you should get a replacement.

Kenyu73, Thanks for your help. I downloaded Hendcent. Can you help me further with creating my texting groups. I am new to the whole smart phone thing.

The groups are built off your contact groups (Work, Family, Kids, etc). You'd have to manage/create those groups first. If your using Gmail to manage contacts, then it should be a snap. Setup your Gmail contact groups and then sync the changes to your phone.

Manual Sync: Settings-->Data Synchronization->Google (menu-->Sync Now)

Kudos to Kenyu for helping out with this thread, as he kind of picks up the slack when I'm not around (which is not very often :smileytongue: ).

What is important to understand is that there are many different variables that can effect the way your calls are. It can be service in your area, it can be a hardware problem, it can be a software bug. It can be the area that you're sitting in your house and what you're around.

I can't pin point for you, what the exact problem is. What I can suggest is taking a friends phone, who is on Verizon and compare not only signal, but call quality as well. You can't just look at a phone and say "Alright I know what's the issue" without doing a little testing first.

If the other phone does hold better service, and signal, then I would go to your phone and do a factory reset. Factory resets clear everything in your phone, including your contacts (But not to worry, you can get them back Via GMail), your apps (But not to worry, you can get those back through the market), and anything else stored in your phone.

If it does not work then, and because I can't physically be there to look at the phone, I would say do a complete manufactures return -- try the new Droid. If that one does not work again -- return it for a new phone.

About your e-mail, I have no idea where it's from or why it would keep reoccuring. I would go into your Gmail in your desktop to see who is the sender of the mail (Perhaps something you subscribed to) and stop the service. Now, why it's dated to that, I don't know. Try, perhaps, Factory resetting your phone with a new Gmail account to see if you get the same issue, and factory reset it back to your old one.

If your old one keeps recieving that e-mail, then you know it's something specifically targeting your e-mail as opposed to just your phone or something.

I can't tell you why the mail is showing up, but I can at least explain the date!

The 1969 date would be the beginning of the UNIX epoch; UNIX time is the number of seconds since midnight, GMT, on January 1st of 1970. Allowing for timezones, this often puts a timecode of '0' at some point in the evening of December 31st, 1969. So whatever the e-mail is, the time information is showing up as '0' (or, presumably, empty) at some point along the way and being treated as a literal '0' timestamp.

Keep in mind that Android /is/ built off of a Linux kernel (and thus, internally, uses UNIX time to track times), so the '0' could well be Android's own misunderstanding of a malformed e-mail.
