Why can't I change my notification ringtone?

I have the galaxy s4. When I change the notification ringtone, it still rings with the old one. I'm confused. Why does it not change?

I figured it out. I dug even deeper into the setttings of the messaging app and found how to change it. I could have sworn I had dug deeper in there already, but I guess not. Thanks for the help!!

Clearing up confusion is what we do best. The S4 is an excellent device and being able to customize your tones is a must. When did this start happening? Can you provide the steps on how you change the tone?

I go into settings, my device, sound and notification, notification ringtone. I change it, it says its changed but the next time I get a text message, its still the old ringtone.
