Does galaxy S3 sim free?

I am going to travel in Japan soon. My version contract is more than 2 years, and now is edge plan (month to month). I found prepaid sim in Japan. Only if my galaxy s3 is sim free, I can use it. Before buy the prepaid sim, I would like to know I can use it or not. please help!
