My daughter has a Voyager and she keeps getting data usage charges. All she doe is text and talk. Are there certain types of text messages that charge data usage? Maybe sending sounds back and forth?
There are buttons preset on the phone (the UP directional arrow on the inside keyboard) that are set to connect to Get It Now, and the Media Center #1 spot connects and racks up data charges as well). Even if you accidentally hit it and cancel, it still uses miniscule amounts of data, so they say, and you get dinged. And now, I can't even get a courtesy credit for the random times I accidentally click on something....so I eat about $2 a month in charges.....
Change the shortcut keys, block downloads and web access, and try very hard not to accidentally connect. the only way to prevent it altogether is a National Access Block and that prevents sending and receiving picture messages too, so I opted not to do that. And because I won't put THAT block on, they won't credit me the $1.99. </smallrant>
Anyway, HTH, and thanks for listening....
i just had a mysterious data charge on my phone as well. i called verizon and they said it was because of a "premium" text. Still not quite sure what it is but im pretty sure its from free ringtone or game sites where they tell you to "text such and such to 44439" or whatever. the guy from verizon told me where it came from and i have no clue how it happened but he took the charge off the phone and block my phone from getting premium texts in the future. so if i were you i'd just call verizon and see whats up. they have pretty good customer service and are generally really helpful.

Sending sounds, pictures, videos, do NOT cause the data charges. They count as text messages.
