just woke up and it sayed there was a update made shure it was 5.1.1 and its installing now just wanted to let u all know will post in a few day to see if it helps with any of the problems
The upgrade just completed and took about 30 minutes.
5.1.1
Security Patch Level 2015-12-01
Baseband v: N910VVRU2BOK3
Kernel: 3.10.40 dpi@SWHD7323 #1 / Thurs Dec 3 19:27:41 KST 2015
Build: LMY47X.N910VVRU2BOK3
Time will tell.
Me to, in Michigan. Said "will take 17 minutes to install". I charged up and letting it rip now. I was going to update the other thread (the FAIL thread) but it is now locked by an admin. Kudos to Verizon for not locking it until now though. I don't know how much space is needed, but I did have somewhere above 10G free.
I got my 5.1.1 update around an hour ago. I could be wrong but already have found my battery life improved!
Downloading now.
I love how it is time stamped December 3rd 2015. 42 days to push it out.
I've noticed a substantial system speed improvement. I wiped the phone yesterday in preparation of taking this update. Even from a factory reset it was lagging.... so far in 5.1.1 everything seems as peppy as when it was running kitkat. I've loaded up many apps and its still going strong.
Battery, I've lost 27% during the flash... but it even tells you to recharge after the update. Guess I won't know if this upgrade helped my battery and radio issues until later... does look promising though.
The update destroyed my battery life. After a full charge, the phone is telling me only 4 hours left on battery. I did a factory reset and I can still watch the battery percentage drop. The battery life was bad before this update, but now it's completely useless.
Yes, it updated in NC. The original thread will no longer accept comments. Lol.
@llamee see my recommendation on the other thread to get yourself a new battery. Be sure it is OEM and not counterfeit.
To everyone else, I know this isn't scientific, but normally I'd have lost at least 5-7+% in the last 90 minutes. However, after an hour I looked at my battery and it still said 100%! Right now it's at 98% after 90 minutes. According to the battery meter I can get through the rest of today, and all of tomorrow without a charge.
update in South Carolina this morning, seem to run a little faster so far!!
Same findings here. I've been on my phone all morning, and I'm in a roaming area, but battery seems a tad better. Seems quicker to open apps. I'll probably do a reset later in the week when I'm bored so I can compare. So far, so good.
Updated earlier today to 5.1.1, as soon as the notification came in. While the battery dropped a fair amount (20% or so) during the update, the battery usage appears much, much better. I use to think the phone was going to start on fire it got so hot while not doing anything, with the battery usage graph trending nearly straight down, but for the last many hours it has been literally horizontal and the phone is nice and cool. Response seems to also be greatly improved, with S-Note even popping up immediately now instead of several minutes after you remove the stylus. Time will tell, but so far it looks really good (finally).
I was so excited when I saw the update that I started it in the middle of class. It took about 20 minutes to upgrade. When I booted, I noticed that the phone was extremely slow, which was a little discouraging. However, after letting it cool off (literally), the phone is now at least 5x faster. Unlocking the phone has gone from taking 5+ seconds to <1. I noticed icons are slightly different and text is slightly smaller in the status bar, but nothing major. RAM usage has halved. I now have around 1GB free instead of 450MB. Battery life is still meh (slight improvement), but I think it's because my battery was destroyed with 5.0. I guess a charge cycle will tell for sure.
There are some minor annoyances so far, however. Vibrations for notifications seem to have all been set to a short double vibration. The notification that tells when WiFi is connected is back, even though it's disabled in settings, and I can't get rid of it by swiping.
Overall, massive improvement.
I did, thank you. I have two batteries coming in overnight. I went with the Anker batteries as both seemed to have somewhat mixed results. Hopefully that fixes the issue. I'm just aggravated with Verizon's management. What's the point of paying for the number one network when they leave you hanging with junk software and useless phones that don't work on said network. Network quality is one thing, but Verizon is really behind when it comes to maintaining the devices that run on the network. This has been an ongoing issue with them for a while now and they act as though they don't care.
Anybody else notice amazingly fast reboot times?
2% battery drop in an hour of use. Seems like an improvement to me. Last week I'd be on the charger already.
One thing I have noticed is my WiFi keeps reaquiring... could be my router though as my pc is also doing it. I'm rebooting my router now.
Amazingly fast performance. Haven't checked reboot yet. Battery still meh, but I haven't charge cycled. My WiFi seems to be having a little trouble, but the WAPs here are terrible, so it's not really a valid comparison. Updating apps no longer overheats the phone, so no more huge battery drain or extreme lag. SO MUCH FASTER!!!!!!! In all seriousness, though, I feel like this is a metaphorical slap in the face for all those reps who blamed our usage habits.
Reboots are so fast! It's like 20-30 seconds vs. the 2 minutes it was before!
Yeah i got the update yesterday, ran into a few minor problems, but it seems everything is running smoothly now, and even the recent apps lag is gone. Battery performance should improve over a few recharges, and there are some minor tweaks to the camera, and other apps. Also i don't use Touchwiz, as i've been using 3rd party launchers for awhile now, so i would recommend KKM, and Arrow. Two really amazing launchers that are well worth the use. Anyway i carry extra batteries with me to switch out, so battery life isn't a big deal to me. Also i you can download DU Battery saver pro, which works wonders for your Note4.
LLamee, we want to make sure that your battery lasts. I have read that you have purchased batteries and you let us know the results. Just saw our battery and charger combo at best buy (Samsung area). I'm thinking of using a price match from Amazon on one, plus whatever stupid best buy rewards I have that will expire in days...
The Anker batteries from Amazon seem to be working. I still don't think the battery life is as great as it was before 5 or even with the 5.1.1 update; however, I do think it's better. The phone does randomly restart now after the update and with a factory reset, so I guess there's no winning. These phones aren't the flagships they were supposed to be.
So Verizon.....
What was it you were saying about the Note 4? That it was our fault that our phones were slow and buggy? That it was because we had "too many*" apps? That it was because we had 100MB of cached data? Now that 5.1.1 is out and pretty much every issue is definitively fixed, what do you have to say about our apps and usage habits which haven't changed? Yeah, you're right, 5.0.1 definitely wasn't the problem. It was totally us and our completely unique habits and apps lists. We were wrong, so sorry.**
*"too many" meaning 10 that weren't preinstalled
**Complete and utter sarcasm
Zach, I've stumbled upon a few bugs in 5.1.1, but ya, the critical problems are resolved.
My new battery finally arrived... I'm going on 10 hours and silk at 87%. I do think 5.0.1 fried our batteries.
It would be nice to disable the WiFi Connected notification, but oh well.
See? That's the battery life I got when I first bought this phone. After a factory reset fixed nothing, I really think I need a new battery. Did you get Anker or wait on Samsung?
Llamee, the Note 4 is an awesome device. Is the device restarting after a certain app is being used? How long is the battery lasting now? Did 5.1.1 enable wifi calling for the Note 4?
It's possible. I did notice that I had perfect HD calling on 1 bar of service the other day.
EDIT
Seems not. I turned Airplane Mode and WiFi on, but it didn't work.
WiFi calling was enabled in 5.0.1 but you need to activate advanced calling on your account. HD calling, iirc only works if you and the recipient both have advanced calling enabled.
I activated Advanced Calling. Does the cell radio still need to be on for WiFi calling to work, even if there's no service?
Never tried, but as I understand how the feature works, I do believe the radio needs to be on. I know that kinda defeats the purpose in our minds, but VZW designed the feature in my opinion to take load off the voice band. But I've been wrong before.
Does anyone else notice how 5.1.1 seemed like an afterthought for Verizon? I think we all pretty much know for a fact by now that Verizon was planning on skipping 5.1.1 and going straight to 6.0. (It's the only thing that can really explain why the update took so long.) However, it's also known that, in order to get 6.0, we need to have 5.1.1 installed. It kind of seems like Verizon didn't actually know this, until pretty late on.
If they really wanted to, they could add the updated bootstrap, kernel, and device drivers to 6.0 and skip 5.1.1. However it is plausible they would need a driver or two to be updated first.
A friend of mine in the UK is beta testing 6.0 on his Note. He seems to have positive comments about it.
Do you really think Verizon would do something that required that much work? It looks like the current 5.1.1 build was just ripped from AT&T .
I can't wait for 6.0! All I can say is, it'd be great if Verizon was the first carrier to release it for the Note 4. If they aren't, it had better not come 4th, 3 months+ after the third carrier.
Wifi calling is not enabled for the note 4. It is only on s6 and s6 edge. Advanced calling is available. They are two different things. Hope that helps.
That's what I thought :smileysad:.
since upgrade notice s delay in phone starting and a lag in app launch was fine on 5.0.1, does anyone have an idea how to fix this?
Update fixed this for everyone i have spoke to.
It might be time to try a wipe cache factory reset for you.
Updated N910VVRU2BOK3 1/22/16
Bad: Dimmer screen than before, getting ongoing/intermittent unknown notification... possibly Wi-Fi notification (wifi notice cannot be turned off). Turned off notification reminder in settings but still get occasional ghost notification with default sound. Txt messaging app buggy, status bar shows unread notification even after reading messages. Amazon app still there even tho update states it removes Amazon.
Good: faster cpu, faster response to UI, slightly better battery life, slight improvement in RAM.
I stopped in my local Verizon store to ask about the update and check and see if a patch was coming out in the near future... no one there knew anything....go figure :-\
It removed the Amazon Appstore, not the app itself.
Sent using CloudMagic Email
Of course, why would Vz want to remove bloatware... what was I thinking
I do use the apps themselves, to be fair. However, it would be nice if they
could be uninstalled. The Appstore was only removed because it was discontinued.
(That discontinuation was like three months after Lollipop was released, but
we'll ignore that.)
