I have an iphone for work that I don't want to carry all the time. If I install verizon messages on my personal droid, can I use the app to send/receive text messages through my iphone number, but using the droid?
No. You can only integrate one phone with 1 number. You cannot use one number with 2 phones. You can integrate other devices to the number, but not 2 phones. You have to be able to receive a text on the phone used to send receive texts with. So, you cannot send/receive messages with the iPhone number to an Android phone.
