the data cable only charges and i cannot find settings so it can find it as a device. thanks

Did you down load and install sidesync or smart switch? This will also install the drivers you need. If you still have trouble you may need to enable adb. Just go to settings then about phone and then tap the build number until it says you are a developer. Then press back once then you should see developer options. Then tap that then turn adb on.
